Does anyone ever use this forum?
I have an account there and cant seem to login on K Meleon all of a sudden.

It has worked fine fora year or so and now it doesnt.

I used this for a long time and it stopped working.
I tried to spoof to FF2 and it didnt help.
As luck would have it I recently reloaded my system and have a new copy of KM now and it still doesnt work, so it cant be my settings.

They mentioned that it "Sounds like an Ajax/JSON problem"

Any ideqas?

I probably have less clue than yourself, and it may very well be that the guys over there changed anything (couldn't they have at least told IF they did or not??), but it IS a little suspicious that this happened right after you cleared cookies...
Perhaps you used the native cookie editor and there was accidentally checked the "delete permanently" field...? And am I supposing right that you copied over your old profile to the new installed KM?
If you close the browser (+loader) and then rename the file hostperm.1 in your profile folder, so that it gets ignored at next restart, you could quickly figure out if it may be a problem with the cookie-blacklist, or not.
More cookie settings are in F2/Privacy...

Btw that # after a URL happens to me when javascript is off and I click on a javascript link, so perhaps there's something with the javascript settings? Is it perhaps accidentally blocked in Tools/Privacy?
Or do you use Policy Manager, where javascript is now globally blocked for unknown sites..?

Well it would seem that they did change something.
The trouble is that my connection to them is a administrator for the forum
and not a web site administrator.
Therefore he has to pass on the question and I dont think that it has been.

I thought that it was odd to have problems after clearing the cookies as well,
I have done that hundreds of times and never had an issue.

Being the only user on this computer I dont have different profiles so I dont think that would be an issue.
I didnt copy over any profiles or anything else.
I am unsure how to view my profile settings as they are now.

In the privacy section the only thing that is checked is the block popup option.
I haven't tried that with it off but will as soon as I finish this.
I dont really think that will be a cure but will try.

The fact that it stopped working earlier and now that I have done a complete reinstall and the same thing occurs, I would have to believe that the problem is with them.

Possibly someone here will have an account with them and can see if it is them or me.

Just tried it, and I have no problem logging in, really! Normal user agent, popups blocked, ads blocked, flash blocked. Cookies and javascript and referer allowed, but I didn't do any more testing otherwise ;-)
(KM 1.5.3 + gecko 1.8.1.23)

Just remembered, there are people with strange problems sometimes, especially after new installs of anything, who say that suddenly everything worked after they had restarted the whole system...

Yep, it is the same page that I tried before. I can log-in without problems. The Sign-In window requires javascript to be enabled I think.

OK now i am a bit confused.

I didnt do anything other than delete cookies before.
Actually I delete clear all data when I do it.

Now with a fresh install of everything including windows still the same.
As for plugins I show
Mozilla default
shockwave flash
shockwave for director
yahoo application state
Nvidia 3d vision
Java SE 6 U17 (npoji610.dll)
Java SE 6 U17 (npjpi160.17.dll)
Jave Deplyment Toolkit 6.0.170.4
Adobe Acrobat

If Siria can do it why cant I
I am set to accept all cookies
In privacy I have everything off.

I do find this in the error console but it mans nothing to me.
Security Error: Content at http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/06_01_2010/KonaBase.js may not load data from http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/.

Thank you all for the help so far.
Please dont stop.
I visit this site a lot

But what is exactly happening? Do you see the sign-in window, can you enter your username and password into the text fields?

So that is the culprit, kontera, not the browser or tomshardware!
Looks like this is an advertisement company, and that script is HUGE...
And there something with Flash in it, so first thing I'd try is to
- block FLASH and block ADS in the privacy menu.
- Add kontera.com to the adblock-stylesheet.
- Open hostperm.1 in your profile directory, close the browser and the loader, and add this line:
host domain 2 kontera.com
Close and restart browser...

hmm. looks like a cross domain violation. no idea how to fix it, would guess some kind of restrictjion on JS execution or popup blocker activated.

I just went to the site and when you click the login link, it activates a javascript "modal dialog" type window to input name and password. the code for that is not in the page source, maybe it is located at the kona website, or maybe the kona website is just an advertisement.

do you even see the modal dialog for logging in ???

Are you possibly talking about the standard host file?

I do turn my computer on an off regularly.

After setting to all privacy settings off and accept all cookies
I was able to see the login box one time yesterday.
I filled it in and hit send and I got no response.
I did accidently hit the button for KM to remember the log in details at that point. Hvae I made it worse?

If you could please tell me how to clear the login data from KM

Ok it would seem that I am having trouble with Java in general.

I just went to www.slacker.com
and had trouble.
I spoofed to FF 2.0 same proble.

In error console I got this
Security Error: Content at http://llcache.slacker.com/mapper/s=2.0.1641/js/com/rockit/webplayer/commonPlugins.js may not load data from http://www.slacker.com/webplayer/index_embed.vm.

If I remember correctly I loaded Jave before KM.
Maybe it isnt registered correctly.
So Im going to try to uninstall Java
and reload it and see if that makes a difference

you're confusing java runtime with javascript(actually the proper term is ECMA- but that never caught on but it will help end the confusion between both.

i doubt very much that uninstalling sun's java or reinstalling it will fix your problem.. what is more likely is some setting that caused that problem. so you have a problem in your profile..

problems like that are mostly related to either some js elements were disabled or something in your network settings.. pipelinning for instance-though it does speed up browsing but some websites/servers don't like it at all and will simply shun you out when they detect a browser pipelinning on their servers. instead of trying to pinpoint the exact new setting..which can be hard and time consuming, try to test with a new profile.

you have mentioned that you did uninstall and reinstall kmeleon but remember unless you specifically choose it; an uninstall will not remove the defualt user profile and then a new install will still see that pofile and use it

in k-meleon click on edit and select 'manage profiles'
create a new profile and name it tester, and select ;ask at startup'

restart kmeleon and choose the newly created 'tester' profile..go to tonyshardware as usual and see if you can login normally..if it works, then it's definitely something that has went bad in your settings... migrate your known good settings, passwords and bookmarks to the new created profile 'tester' and check again if login is working.
when you're completely satisfied with the new profile..open manage profiles again.. delete the old profile and uncheck ask at startup..this will make that new profile default.

To me it definitely sound like problem on Your machine.

I usually give up if a profile seems corrupt. disrupted mentions js.

The preferences are also stored as *.js = JavaScript (ECMA) sad smiley

I have tried the login today and it didn't work. So I think it is something with the js of their popup window and the internet connection speed you have (mine is slow). After reloading the page and trying again, it let me to see the login screen.

The web is full with hits for that error. Type this into a search engine:
e.g. in google: "Security Error: Content at " "may not load data from "

Have read a few pages but so far no real solution... It is mostly due to bad ads, and since your error mentions an ad-company, that probably is the case for you too.
One person has posted that if it hangs for him, he only needs to hit RELOAD, and then it works again...

And a new profile for testing sure is always a good idea.

I also can find nothing of the hostperm.1 anywhere.

First, because it doesn't sound very clear above, the adblock-stylesheet and the hostperm that I suggested are two different things. And it's funny that I can get in and you not in that forum, so this may not help, but anyway, one never knows... Perhaps I'm just getting other ads with a german IP??

---------------------
The adblock-stylesheet is here (in the profile chrome folder):
Edit > Configuration > Ad-Blocking stylesheet

You can try adding that at the bottom (copied from "doubleclick" as example, another ad-company):
*[src*="kontera.com"], *[href*="kontera.com"] {display: none !important;}

Then switch on blocking ads in Tools > Privacy > Block Advertisement
If it's already blocked, you still need to toggle it on-off for a moment, or the changes in the file aren't read.
---------------------

The hostperm is a real hammer, and the big problem is, it's easily forgotten later. But in case nothing else helps, or for testing...
That file is created in your profile as soon as you block anything permanently, e.g. certain cookies or images etc. If nothing is there yet, you can just create a new empty text file, then rename it to "hostperm.1" (no ending), and write in it.
Or as a workaround, if you prefer, click on Tools > Privacy > Permissions > Cookies
add there kontera.com

CLOSE browser, close loader, go to your profile folder manually and open hostperm.1

Change it into this, or just copy it into the empty file:
host document 2 kontera.com

Restart browser.
In theory this should block just about everything from that domain.
Alternatively you can write "script" instead of "document", this is supposed to block scripts.

It's explained in detail here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Hostperm.1

Not sure if you need it in this case, but just in general:
Tools > Privacy > Clear data > Clear Passwords

I have made these bookmarklets, this is the js that the page calls when you click the Signin link.
javascript:viewModal(%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tomshardware.com%2Fmembres%2F%3Faction%3DmodalLogin%27)

javascript:window.open(%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tomshardware.com%2Fmembres%2F%3Faction%3DmodalLogin%27)

Ok the problem is all on their end.

I followed Disrupteds advice and made a new profile.
Since I didnt setup favorites I typed the address to the main page.
Managed to log in and went to the forum, made a post and couldnt submit.

Opened IE and finished the post.

Opened KM again in the normal profile, logged in on the Main page and went to the forum and edited the same post that I couldn't submit to earlier and submitted.

Thank you all for you help on this.
You guys have been great.
And very informative.
Now that I have this info I can ride them about it
and possibly get it fixed

I am going to come back to this thread quickly and make the adjustments for the Kontera issues.

If someone has the ability in future versions of KM be sure to put Kontera into the ad block list.
It is the same as intellitxt and produces the little pop up ads as you pull the mouse over highlighted text.

Thanks again to all
