Meow,

Follow the instructions for customizing preferences here:

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/docs/custompref.php

to add the following pref:

browser.cache.directory

The value will be the location of the directory.

This SHOULD work. I'll test it when I get a chance. If it works, as it should, I will add that to the list of Mozilla preferences that we highlight.

Good thing I said this is how it SHOULD work. Because, apparently something is ignoring that pref setting. This appears to be a Mozilla issue. I'll see if I can get more information.

The docs at:

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/docs/custompref.php

talk about a ...\*.slt\ directory where the user.js file is
supposed to be placed. I don't have this. My directory
tree ends with: \defaults\profile\ and that's where
"Prefs.js" lives for me. Is this the correct directory
for user.js in my case? I tried putting it there and it
didn't work, but perhaps that's related to the possible
bug..

Bill,

It looks like you are looking in the "default" directory with in:
C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\...
Instead, you should be looking in the "default" directory that is in your User Profile. Let me know which version of Windows are you using and I can direct you where to look.

Never mind. I found it In my case the directory turned out to be:

c:\\WINDOWS\Application Data\KMeleon\Profiles\default\8w8pp37n.slt

Boy, do I hate Windows. My modifications are working now.

Thanks again, Andrew.

Bill,

I figured you would find that once you knew what you needed to look for. As far as this thread, that pref doesn't seem to work as advertisted. However, I wasn't sure if you needed it for that or some other pref.

Andrew,

No, I was actually trying to change the font size and get rid of the
link underlining. Both of these prefs worked just fine.

Bill,

OK. I thought you had posted on some other threads. Glad to hear that you got those working. As far as font size, does the one time change work for you or would you like to see something in the interface to allow you to change font size on the fly?

Andrew,

Frankly I think there needs an easier mechanism to allow users
to change font-size. The entire http server/client strategy is
predicated on allowing the user to adapt the appearance of a
page to his/her particular needs. I just can't see the average
user figuring out the current process very readily. Further,
when you encounter pages where the author has suggested a
default font size too small for comfortable reading, you want to
be able to change quickly and easily to a larger font, and then
back again once you've finished dealing with that page. I see
this as a critically needed change.

That said, I've been using K-Meleon exclusively for about a week
now and I like it very much. Netscape 4.7 was frequently crashing
on me and K-Meleon has yet to do so. The only other area I've found
a little inconvenient is the lack of strong bookmark editing
capabilities, but that's another thread.

Thanks again for all your help.

Bill,

Good points. Yes, building that control into the interface would be useful. I'll see if the developers can work something up.
