The German government has warned web users to find an alternative browser to Internet Explorer to protect security.

The warning from the Federal Office for Information Security comes after Microsoft admitted IE was the weak link in recent attacks on Google's systems.

Microsoft says the security hole can be shut by setting the browser's security zone to "high", although this limits functionality and blocks many websites.

Critical Security Hole in Internet Explorer by German Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI). That translates as Federal Bureau for Security in Information Technology.

My favorite sentence: Deshalb empfiehlt das BSI, bis zum Vorliegen eines Patches von Microsoft auf einen alternativen Browser umzusteigen. = For this reason the BSI recommends to change to an alternative browser until a patch by Microsoft is available.

The info was also presented on the 15.01.2010 in the prime time evening news.
My almost 90 yo aunt told me and that I was not supposed to use this IE program.

I'm pretty clever myself & switched IE for K-meleon many, many years ago :cool:

What I don't understand is why Google were using IE 8 anyway when they have their own browser? I never liked IE anyway. It seems the problem was well known.

For what I read, all this is that the people working at Google and other companies executed malware, so, even if IE was important to attack them, the guilt here are those stupid people.

If I were at Google, all of them would be fired immediately.
