opening .doc

Hello,

I use K-Meleon on our intranet and we have a wiki site with a lot of links to .doc and .xls files we use like a knowledgebase (releasenotes, known problems, ect). When I click a .doc link with IE I can open and read it and then close it. With K-meleon I first have to download the file and then open it.

Is there a possibility to have all links to .doc en .xls open with the correspondig program without downloading the file to my computer.

Any information/help would be nice.
I am working with K-Meleon 0.7.

Greetings,
Jeroen Roeterd

Yes, there are a possibility to do this, but it opens a big security-whole. Add the following line to your prefs.js (one line)

user_pref("browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile", "application/doc application/xls");

Be sure, that the mime-type is defined in Registry for .doc and .xls.

But please, be very careful with this option in case of .doc and .xls! It is possible, that these documents including dangerous scripts and there are no difference in the behaviour in intranet and internet!
