Securing/locking down K-Meleon

Hi All

I'm very new to K-Meleon, but have been recommended that I look into it as a possible candidate for use in our library on our Catalogue PC's. I have seen a mention of securing this for use in the tutorials, but no link to the information.

If anyone has information that would help with this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Try to search in forum with "kiosk" query.

I think you are searching something similar to kiosk mode.
Else you must explain exactlly what is that you want do with K-Meleon?
What elements you like block or hide?

Somehow I could swear having just recently seen a new post where someone gave a link to an old posting by kko about kiosk mode, but somehow can't find it again, weird...

Just add -webapp to the line that starts KM:

Found it!! kko's posting didnt contain the word kiosk, so the forum search didn't help tongue sticking out smiley
Here it was:

Alternatively, for K-Meleon 1.5:

- In \defaults\settings empty (or delete) the files accel.cfg and menus.cfg.
- Start k-meleon.exe with command line parameter -webapp.

This goes a step further, not just kiosk mode but also prevents clever users from restarting the browser in normal mode. Just depends on how much security one needs.
Perhaps the additional files to delete could be added to the wiki...?

I can say for sure that the OpenCD initiative used to employ K-Meleon as the CD content front-end, so that minimal configuration would pretty much be ideal for a public kiosk. I have no links, though... sad smiley

Yes, but OpenCD continue using an old version K-Meleon 0.8 amended.

I have made kiosk variations to be used from CD,
updated till 1.8.1.21. Profiles were not created,
and nothing written on the harddisk.
No disk cache and no history.
Updating to 1.8.1.24 would still be possible.
