Layers vs Windows

Hi,
I am using "Version 0.7.1 Build 734 Compiled Wed Feb 12 18:21:25 2003" and have added "user_pref("kmeleon.plugins.layers.catch", true);" to the prefs.js file (as suggested elsewhere in this forum.
This means that 'Ctrl-N' now creates a new layer, not a new window, which is a good thing. However when links are selected from an open page they open in the same layer as that page.
Is it possible to get each link to open in a new layer?
Regards,
Geoff Hicks

I use it and I notice a little problem. In fact, windows seems to be layers, but in fact they are not.
When I want to close K-Meleon, if I only have really layers, KM directly close
else, I must close KM as times as I have windows (false layers)

@alain:
To get rid of this prob you can create a exit-toolbar-button like this one:
Exit Button(28, 21) {
Exit {
ID_APP_EXIT
Exit
image.bmp
image.bmp
image.bmp
}
}
You should place the desired bmp-image for your button in the /KM/Profiles/default/xxxxx.slt/ -directory.
K-Meleon closes directly after hitting it then.

You can also add an accel, for example I use CTRL E = ID_APP_EXIT.

Hi,
Thanks for the tips on closing the extra layers.
But my question was why only Ctrl-N, rather than a selected link, opens a new layer.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Geoff.

If a link on webpage is designed to open in a new window, with the catch pref enabled, it will open in a new layer. If the link is designed to open within that same window then that's what will happen. You can always open any link in a new layer by right-clicking it and selecting "open in new layer". But I assume you know that. If you're talking about locking a webpage so that all links regardless of design will open in a new window/layer, then that's a different story.

Ohhhhh! I get it.
It's because right now the only HTML convention for opening a window is like this:
<a href="link.htm" target="_new">Link Test</a>
But almost no one uses that. Everyone just does this:
<a href="link.htm">Link Test</a>
This is why some browsers give you the option of opening every link in a new layer instead of a new window, because the HTML convention is to assume the same window by default. AFAIK, K-M doesn't have this feature yet.
You can put in a bug in the bug report forum if you want to submit a Request For Improvement-- just make you bug report titled: RFE - <your title>. That way the developers can consider it adding that functionality.

Ok, Ok, RFE....Request Feature Enhancement, Request For Enhancement...one of those has to be what it really stands for, so now I've covered all my bases!

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback. Sorry my explanation was a bit muddy.
Bye for now,
Geoff.

I don't understand this syntax:
Exit Button(28, 21) {
Exit {
ID_APP_EXIT
Exit
image.bmp
image.bmp
image.bmp
}
}
I can't do it works ...
But this seems to work:
Exit {
ID_APP_EXIT
Exit
image.bmp
image.bmp
image.bmp
}
What is the difference ??

Yes, thats it.
I made a new toolbar and disabled the throbber by the way, so that where the throbber was (upper right corner) there is an exit-button now and I close KM every time with it.
For me, its the best solution, since I'm accustomed to close applications there ;O)
