K-Meleon and PDF
Date: March 27, 2010 01:59AM
I am very sorry if my question is very old, but I couldn't find an answer on the forum.
If I open page with any pdf content (form, book page...) and then close browser by clicking on red cross in upper right corner K-Meleon (regardless 1.54 or 1.6 ) get closed. But it is running and to start KM again I has to end process with Task Manager. After restarting I get message " K-M was closed unproperly..".
This issue is not so big but I never have it with Firefox or Iron.
Any idea?
Thanks.

My OS is Windows XP SP2. I am using Adobe Reader 9.3 Lite.
Plugin- D:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape.
I don't like Foxit because of low quality of perfomance for some forms and texts. I fill PDF forms often and I am using PDFill PDF Editor for that. This utility requires Adobe Reader for working properly.
I don't understand, why Firefox has no problem with the same Adobe Reader plugin above.
Edited.
I tried to open "MIME Types" in EDIT menu KM 1.6 to resign applcation/PDF to other viewer. It gave me small empty KM window in opposite KM 1.54, where I got list of MIME and option to change application.

I don't know if it will do what you need it to do, but I'm using PDF-XChange Viewer instead of Adobe and it does a good job for me with K-Meleon.

1.) Place the PDF plugin into ./K-Meleon/plugins & try. That is more similar to FF extension & where to try plugins that make problems.
2.) For 1.6 mimetypes editing U can use attached app.
I do not support mtypes any more.

@guenter,
Thank you for sending application. I will try it later.
Placing Adobe plugin in KM plugins folder didn't resolve problem neither in KM 1.54 nor in KM 1.6.
Edited.
I unziped sent by you application to KM 1.6 folder. When I started KM and click on MIME types I get empty application window with NEW button and greyed EDIT and REMOVE buttons. If I try to type to add something I can't do it. If I click on NEW button it freezes and I has to vote by three fingers (Alt-Control-Del) to end kmeleon.exe process.
What is wrong?
Thanks.

you should submit a bug report concerning the pdf plugin..there was a similar bug with wmp
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/bugs/viewbug.php?bugid=1029
for now, when the pdf plugin is invoked..close the browser from file>exit kmeleon or close the tab first where the pdf plugin was loaded

wow, good thing I found this topic. i also encountered the PDF problem in K-meleon versions 1.54 and 1.6.0a3. I'll use the workaround that disrupted suggested from now on until the problem gets fixed.

When I look for Adobe Reader Lite 9.3, I end up with a 26.1 meg file. That is the lite version?

desga2,
How do you get foxit to work with KM? I added PDF as a new file type in MIME, then pointed it to c:\program files\foxitreader\foxitreader.exe
Doesn't work, just hangs there when it encounters a pdf file on the web.
Can we adapt the foxit plugin that FireFox uses?
npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll
P.S. Scratch that. Should have known, but just figured it out. The settings I needed to make FoxIt work involved using the full Foxit Reader not the DLL plugin.
Edit/Mime Types
New Type
Mime Type: PDF
[X] Open it using the default application
Tks for all the info.

Yes, Adobe Reader 9.3 Lite has about 22 Mb for installer and takes 75 Mb for installation. But Adobe Reader 9.3 requests about 130 MB on disk!
The popular PDFX Viewer has 18 MB size for installer.
So this Lite is really lite.
