Hello I have tryed to find the answer but Im not so good in english so even if it is there somewere I havnt found it. I have bookmarkfolders with some bookmarks that I want to open up together but I cant figure out who to do this. I can just open one bookmarks in time and then I have to open a new tab and then open the next...
I used firefox before where there is a option to open all, but firefox eats all my cpu so I am now trying k-meleon and its realy nice with the cpu.

Method that I use is Groups2 http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/KmmGroups2 in the MacroLibarary. Open each item in your folder in a new tab then save that group of tabs and give it a name. Next time you want them just open the group.

Alternative method.

Edit bookmarks - give the bookmarks folder a nickname.

AFAIK it will open all bookmarks in the folder when You type the nickname into the URL field and strike the enter key/go there.

NinTew,

You can use both Sessions and Groups to save multiple URLs and open them all at once.

Hi,

I'd like to sum this up, again:
- and I have edited this on 7th of May 2010 to complete the info, shamelessly copying lines from siria`s post further down
(- thank you, siria, I hope you don't mind!)
- Further edit 8th of May 2010 (Thanks, JamesD!)
- Further edit 15th of May 2010 (Thanks, bugmenot!)
- Further edit 6th of June 2010 (Thanks, desga2 & JamesD & ndebord, for that great new version of Groups2!)

Please don't hesitate to correct me if some info here IS wrong!

In K-Meleon, there are three ways to open several URLs all at once, and each of these methods work a bit differently.

1) Sessions:

How it is done: open all the sites you want to have in the "Session" - but no more.
Go to menu -> Sessions -> save Session, name the session, save.
"Load" is in that menu, too.

  • Minus: Opening a session closes all other tabs AND windows first.
  • +/- : saves a whole set of open windows and tabs and their
    arrangement, including windows' states.
  • Plus: One URL can be member of several sessions.
  • Plus: those URLs do NOT have to be collected into one folder
    - they don't even have to appear in your bookmarks.
  • Plus: Consequently: They work even if you don't use bookmarks, but
    IE Favs or/and Opera Hotlist.
  • Plus: Has a menu, so it can be triggered by mouse or
keyboard, may even have a toolbar button in some skins.

2) Groups:

Edited 2010/06/06, new Version of Groups2, featuring:
Export & Import to/from an ini file, Open group at startup, sort Groups, and more.
Read about all the new features here

How it is done: Install Groups2, Version 0.6.3 (or higher) from here or here.
Open all the sites you want to have in the "Group" - but no more.
Open them sorted - the arrangement IS remembered.
Go to menu -> Groups -> save as Group, name the group, save.
There is a submenu containing the groups' names to load them.
  • Minus: has to be installed before using first.
  • +/- : works for the tabs in one window only.
  • Plus: remembers arrangement of tabs.
  • Plus: Opening a group does NOT close other tabs.
  • Plus: One URL can be member of several groups.
  • Plus: those URLs do NOT have to be collected into one folder
    - they don't even have to appear in your bookmarks.
  • Plus: Consequently: They work even if you don't use bookmarks, but
    IE Favs or/and Opera Hotlist.
  • Plus: A group can be set to open on K-M startup.
  • Plus: Groups can be exported, imported, merged
  • Plus: Groups can be sorted alphabetically with just some clicks.
  • Plus: Has a menu, so it can be triggered by mouse or
keyboard, may even have a toolbar button in some skins.

3) Nicks:

How it is done: Go to -> Bookmarks -> Edit. Select a bookmark FOLDER from
the list, or create a new one (right-click the list field). Drag the bookmarks
you want to have opened together into that folder.
Now, go to the last but one edit field, called "Nick" in the en-US version. Enter a
short Name in there. Hit enter. Close BookmarkManager.
To open these bookmarks, type their Nick in the URL bar, hit
enter or click the "Go"-button.
  • Minus: They don't work with IE Favs, only with Bookmarks and the Opera Hotlist.
  • Plus: Tabs are arranged as set in bookmarks manager.
  • Plus: Can be triggered by keyboard.
  • Plus: seems to me nicks open the pages faster than the other two.
  • Plus: Opening a nick does NOT close other tabs.
  • Plus: One bookmark can be member of several nicks.
  • Plus: those bookmarks do NOT have to be collected in sessions or groups. ;-)
  • -/+ : Has no menu, so can only be triggered by keyboard out of the box.

siria goes on writing:
But may have a menu and toolbar button with a little macro ;-)

NOTE:
At one point, I asked myself if I couldn't simply switch off "Sessions" and I tried that.
Switched it on again after realizing that it is needed by the "Undo Close Tab" feature.
If you are into editing menus, though, you can remove it from the menu bar, adding
it as a submenu to "Tools" or "View" instead.

Thanks everyone, this was fun.

It was easyest for me to understand how to do what guenter wrote about give bookmarks folder a nickname and that works well for me, but I will check the other options to.
:O

It is so nice of you to help me it would have taken me forever to figure this out on my own.

Whow Soeren, I'm sitting here in awe... smiling smiley

Just a bit confused about your Nicks description.
I find them the best way, so let me add

[*] Plus: Opening a nick does NOT close other tabs.
[*] Plus: One bookmark can be member of several nicks.
[*] Plus: those bookmarks do NOT have to be collected in sessions or groups ;-)
[*] -/+ : Has no menu, so can only be triggered by keyboard out of the box.
But may have a menu and toolbar button with a little macro ;-)

PS: I use one of my new (not yet published) mousegestureplus-actions to open 1 specific nick with a gesture. Perhaps that's even in a minimacro, can't remember, but would be easy to put one on a button. The probs start when I think of an automatically updated menu, that's too complicated. A manual one with a couple bookmarks would be rather easy though. But guess that's not the subject here, and may very well perfectly exist already out there, so just as a side-note ;-)
For toolbar-button or mouse-gesture macros(OpenNick_nicky), or add setmenu-line for menu:
OpenNick_nicky{
$URLBAR="nicky";
id(ID_NAV_GO);
}

I have used the nickname option and Im verry pleased with it with one smal problem. The bookmarks wont open in the order I have them in the bookmarkfolder. But thats a minor problem so I just want to say thanks for the help again. You are all so nice. You are a big deal to us with limited knowledge about computers. What whould we do without you all? :O

Hi, NinTew, plus All,

I have edited my above post. It now contains info about the order of opened Groups/Sessions/Nicks. As I`m not sure about every bit I wrote: want to help testing the info? Any feedback welcome.

[*] Minus: They only work if you use Bookmarks, not with
IE Favs or/and Opera Hotlist.

Nicks DO work with the Hotlist plugin.
