What do you use in Toolbar?
Posted by: ndebord

Just wondered if anyone would care to share their favorite choices for the main navigation toolbar:

Thanks to everyone here, I"m using Back, Forward, Stop, Reload, Go, Email, Search, Print and View History.

Anyone?

(Not answering your question, but...) I don't even use the Toolbar Control Plugin. Hey, I'm a minimalist! :-)

Back, forward, stop, reload, home, search, print, history, stop gifs
and copy. I too am a mininalist. The toolbar, menubar and URL bar are all on the same "line". I like to make sure I can do most of my work with the mouse.

Top Line: File Edit View Bookmarks Help - then URL window
Second Line: Back Forward Stop Reload Home Search Print History - then layer tabs

rmn,

No toolbar at all, eh? Impressive, but more than I can handle. Getting it all down to just one toolbar is as adventurous as I care to be!

Walt,

Yes having it all on one toolbar is just fine with me. Can't imagine having no toolbar at all ala rmn. Like your list, may well have to add some ot it to my toolbar!

ilya,

You don't have bookmarks because you don't find a need for them?

back forward, pop-ups, home, print and search.

Kevin,

Look for the other messages in this section on how to add email button.

I did it thanks to their help there. I used the default ie theme/skin and added this:
I used my favorite email program, Foxmail, but you can change that to whatever you prefer. <g>

Edit/Preferences/Configs/Toolbars

Mail {
macros(exec_Mail)
Open Mail Client
toolhot.bmp[13]
toolcold.bmp[13]
tooldead.bmp[13]
}

Edit/Preferences/Configs/Macros

exec_Mail {
menu=&Mail Client
exec("\"C:\\Foxmail\\foxmail.exe\"");
}

Kevin,

Forgot one part:

Go back to "Edit/Preferences/Configs/Menus" and look for "&File", between "Save As..." and "Print" I've placed the following:

%ifplugin macros
macros(exec_Mail);
%endif

Nice menu, jsnj! But I can't live with such a small URL bar. :-)

Umm, are Layers bar and URL bar toolbars, too? I only disable the Toolbar Control Plugin, but I still use those two toolbars (on separate lines). That's the best I can manage, since I need both as wide as possible.

jsnj:

Am I seeing that right? How did you associate a menu with a toolbar button?!

Do tell!!

MonkeeSage:

I recall that jsnj had said he "hacked the hotlist plugin" to get the menu on a button.

I'm sure he will shed more light on this soon.(don't drool on the keyboard)

ndebord:

As to what toolbars I use:

Two rows, with the second row being only the URL bar.

back,forward,stop,refresh,home.FileEditLinksTools.-layers-.close layer
| URL bar |

Monkeesage,

Figures you'd have a FileEditLinksTools, etc..... button.

<g>

I took off the Go button. Really don't use it much and went back to:

Back, Forward, Stop, Reload, Home, Email, Search, Print and View History

I am happy with having 2 bars, the top menu bar has File, Edit, View, Go, Bookmarks and Help.

In other words, the default setup there.

Under help I use macros to load up the GUL bookmark manager, my Compuserve isp program (CS4.02) and WinVN, my favorite newsgroup program. I also stuck a ton of URLS in Help in addition to Bookmarks and GUL.

For mine, I have the icon bar first. In it I have: Back, Forward, Stop, Reload, Home, My K-Meleon, Email, History, Popups, Print. (I don't use the latter as I have no printer but since this is the theme I made and jsnj uploaded for me...)

Next I have the menubar with numerous additions, the URL bar (with search Dogpile from "enter"), Go, Search from URL bar, and Google News.

All of that is on one bar.

The next bar is: Bookmarks, Layer Open, Layers (which are ajustable in size according to how many are opened from a setting boogomatic showed me) and close layers.

In other words: A lot of stuff packed into two bars. winking smiley And I use it all (except Print as I don't have a printer) and love it! smiling smiley

À la prochaine,
