Someone bought the old kmeleon.org domain and put an old version of the site on it. I wonder what the purpose is, except making kmeleon looks like a dead project...

WHOIS Lookup tells that the Name Servers are from HOSTGATOR.COM, does that means that the fake site is hosted there? :s

Yes, It makes it look old, outdated and abuses K-Meleon's logo and layout.
This is no very funny. No idea what the person intends.

However You only find it when You directly, manually use the Unix project name plus .org.

kmeleon.org: Created On:24-Oct-2005 19:07:39 UTC ... That is registered to "a Private / anonymous person" in Scottsdale, Arizona, US.

Most people would manually use K-Meleon's true project name plus .org.
BTW. I always thought this was the old domain?

k-meleon.org: Created On:12-Jan-2006 13:26:39 UTC ... That is currently registered to Julien Clairet in Paris, France.

And this has vallide links to K-Meleon pages that is also known to Google...

Whatever the search engines invariably point to kmeleon.sourceforge.net. smiling smiley

Not knowing anything about the history of it, I would guess the purpose is to sell it back to the developers or intercept traffic to be paid for displaying ads.

Or... they meant to make it a mirror site long ago and forgot about it, perhaps they were interested in taking over development long ago.

If you want, I will call the number and ask them.

This is what you get when your browser must compete with ff on a selection screen. Next they will ask for money to sell it back to kmeleon. That's how internet commerce workssmiling smiley

Grrr....

But am not 100% sure of the firefox thing, perhaps that's just as fake as the KM addy? There are too many suspicious links sounding like shops, and a link to a software download page - what if they're framing people by "selling" free software there? And using the firefox promotion only to delude people into trusting them?

The "about" page says:
"You can find articles about online retailers, protecting your safety, and choosing an internet provider."
Will not check if those are paid services, but they are definitely faking and not honest!
