Is there a version of KM available to Linux users? If yes, I appreciate if someone can point me to where to download that.

No, but for Linux there are several projects with the same functionality as KM.

no - unless you (yourself alone) manage to compile to core k-m components - k-m is an embed application and there is an mozilla embed project for linux.

they all say it is not possible - but i do not know. an here are linux projects like back arrow tha are similaar.

We really miss a project such a kmeleon on linux !
On my old computer, all the browsers I've tried, except dillo which is quite limited (but very fast), are very bloated and slow (for starting, displaying menus etc.). Firefox is just too slow, mozilla is even worse, konqueror needs kde, browsers for gnome are the same, only opera is almost usable, but it takes 1 minutes to load....
On the same computer, when windows was installed some time ago, it was the same, and only kmeleon was fast enough.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried K-Meleon with Linux and Wine?

It can be just me, but why using Wine?
To be honoust, I was also thinking of a computer with Linux as base-operatingsystem, with a Wine-shell on top and then ' my old and well known' freeware Windows-programs on top of that.
But, searching the internet, trying things, installing new programs etc... on my Linux-system I have to say it is a very good alternative till now....
Unfortunately no K-Meleon ofcourse.. ;-)))

K-Meleon works on Linux under wine.

You possibly need a Windows installation on your computer.
I use it with my knoppix live cd, a Linux running in ram from cd.
Some bugs must be accepted to live with.
Follow these steps:
1)In your home folder desktop make a new folder kmeleon9
2)Download the beta 9 into the folder.
3)Install it into the same folder using wine.
Wine will ask you to make a configuration file, if you use it for
the first time.
Follow the given options. Wine will need Arial and Times in its font
folder, or else it will use its own(strange)font.
They will probably also been found by wine if Windows is on C-drive
and you mount this drive in Linux.
Answer the K-meleon questions, pressing the buttons.
Wait starting the program.
Wine will need the .dlls mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll.
They probably must be in the K-Meleon folder, if wine cannot
find them on the Windows drive.
4)Start K-meleon from its new folder using wine.
The default skin will load. Phoenity can be chosen in Preferences.
You can't move toolbars properly. That must be determined in
Profiles/xxx/prefs.js after you have closed the browser.
I didn't manage to fix their positions for new windows, so you
should load about:config in URLbar and change
"browser.windows.loadOnNewWindow" to the value 0.
This prevents webpages to load in new windows without your consent.
Further configuration may be tricky because you should change
related paths in prefs.js and the other files like macros.cfg,
menus.cfg ,toolbars.cfg, accel.cfg. Every path should lead to
the K-Meleon folders. You can also change userContent.css in the
Profiles/xxx/chrome folder to stop ads. Look for it on texturizer.net.
5)An important hint: Should pages refuse to load, move your mouse a
little bit on the page. Then it should run quite smoothly.

I wish you luck with K-Meleon on Linux.

P.S.

To prevent opening windows you should add to
Profiles/xxx/user.js after closing the browser:

user_pref("browser.block.target_new_window", true);

to open windows yourself add in menus.cfg
at LinkPopup and FrameLinkPopup:

Open in &New Window = ID_OPEN_LINK_IN_NEW_WINDOW
layers(OpenLink, Open in New Layer)
Save &Link As... = ID_SAVE_LINK_AS

Not everything works. but much can be fixed with a little work.

I have realized that using Javascript brings along big
problems. I have no solution for that. As long as you turn it off,
as I usually do, you can use the browser with Linux.
If you use it, the browser might crash. Sorry for that.

Javascript-problems seem to be temporary. May be
it's OK. Give it a try.
