Currently we can have a 1.6 update or none at all.

Simple as that..

yup, but there will be no KM 1.6 update in year 2011. boo. sad smiley
guess we'll wait for at least one in 2012.

another recent response from rodocop in the KM forum development section:

I see.

And what I really think is that we have to publish links to most recent 1.6-betas on download page.

And we have to point somewhere that 1.6beta is the recommended download else we would have neverending stream of "why I can't go to my Yahoo/Facebook/hotmail...?" etc.

still waiting for someone competent enough to actually carry this out.

so far i really like this thing except for ONE thing;
how the HELL do you make the browser STAY on the FIRST tab instead of ALWAYS switching to the NEXT tab?

i want desperately to use this thing, but man - it's irritating as hell to have to keep going back to the first tab - especially when i have to open MANY at a time (sometimes)

anyway; if anyone can PLEASE tell me how to accomplish getting the thing to STAY on the FIRST tab and NOT run off to the others, i would GREATLY appreciate it!

thanks in advance!

@ storm

You did not say if this problem was when you opened or closed a tab. If opening a link, you can right click and choose to open in a background tab. If closing a tab, there are options in EDIT - PREFERENCES - TABBED BROWSING - GENERAL. If this does not provide an answer, please post again and provide more information.

Me to, somewhat related. KM opens with one "empty tab". I use external URL manager, which when opening URL always create a "new tab with that URL" in KM. So now I have two tabs, one of them is default "empty" (eats space/useless/costs click to close/annoys).
Is it possible to add "IF-clause": if we have an "empty tab" new URLs will use this "empty tab" before creating "new" ones?

You may be able to adjust things to work the way you wish by using EDIT - PREFERENCES - TABBED BROWSING - WINDOW DIVERSION.

Nope. I only want use "empty tab" once (after starting KM or closing all tabs), following external URLs should open new tabs.

This is dugbug's build of KM with some tweaks in about:config settings. Author periodically updates this pack of tweaks called him "KMFILES" and every new change leads to increasing 'version' number - so V8 is 8th iteration.

That's all...

I hope someone can help me with this problem using 1.6.17db+v8 which I downloaded from http://www.box.com/s/00x60nt7lt01p9tadhrg

When I attempt to extract the files of 1.6.17db+v8 using the 7z tool I get errors such as "Unsupported compression method for KM-meleon 1.6.17db+v8\kplugins", etc. etc. I am able to open 1.6.17... in a 7z Archrive but when I click on the K-meleon, Loader or Set Default As .exe's I get the same type of errors.

Below are the icons of these .exe's. Windows will not net me change the file association.

Thanx,

Charlie

@caktus
>I get errors such as 'Unsupported compression method
Your 7-Zip is too old. Use 9.20 or newer.

If you want to compare files:
Dugbug-releases use upx-compression for dll
and exe files to reduce size on disk.
I hate it.

I've unpacked the 7zip,
removed the upx-compression,
found no problem,
and renamed and deleted everything.

cactus,
probably deadlock is right - your problem hides in the packer.

Taking this opportunity I've downloaded the db+ build, unpacked it, set it up, applying most convenient options and adding some tools and extensions - then I've repacked this into RAR and uploaded to the web.

So you can be the first to tryout so to say 'Comminity Recommended K-Meleon'

Just about have 1.6.0 (or maybe it's 1.6.17db+v8, I'm not sure any more) like I want it except for 3 things I need help with.

1.
Can some one tell me how I can move the "GO" button to between the URL Bar and the BACK button? I tried changing the button position numbers in the Toolbars.cfg but that just made matters worse.

2.
Also, when I hover the mouse pointer over the "GO" button, the "GO" button turns into a spy glass image like the Search button. I don't consider this a problem but is this normal?

3.
Also, when I hover the mouse button over the Search button, the search search
image disappears but the search button still works.

Here is a link to an image of the toolbar as it is now.
http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m349/fastfoodpics/160Toolbar-1.jpg
I don't know why it won't post as an image using the img code, maybe is has something to do with 1.6.0 as it worked fine with 1.5.4.

1. Don't change numbers in toolbars.cfg!
Position of the button is defined by the corresponding place of code in this config file not by number in brackets!

You need to find this code in Go Buttons section of file - look for
&Go Buttons (24,24){ string.

Copy this code
        Go{
	%ifplugin macros
	macros(Go_Selected)|_Go
	Go to URL. Right-click for more options.
	%else
	ID_NAV_GO
	Go to URL
	%endif
	toolhot+.bmp[27]
	toolhot.bmp[27]
	}

to the section &Main Bar(24,24) {

between Back button code
	Back{
	ID_NAV_BACK
	Go back one page
	toolhot+.bmp[0]
	toolhot.bmp[0]
	toolcold.bmp[0]
	}

and Forward button code:
	Forward{
	ID_NAV_FORWARD
	Go forward one page
	toolhot+.bmp[1]
	toolhot.bmp[1]
	toolcold.bmp[1]
	}

2. Check that in Go Button code numbers in ALL square brackets are [27]

3. Check that in Search Button code (you can find it under original position of Go button code in &Go Buttons (24,24){ section) numbers in ALL square brackets are [31].

*******
All this refers to dbTango skin from dugbug's builds or CommMeleon...

1.6.17db+v8 corrupted the Internet icons so I have gone back to using 1.5.4 until KM 1.6 is in final release.

But since reinstalling 1.5.4 the "File All Tabs" and "Save Page As" produces a generic icon like the icon that is created when "Saving as All Files". The Create Shortcut feature creates the correct KM icon. When using IE 8 as default browser the correct/IE icons are produced.

I tried using "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" Windows feature, but this did not fix the corrupt KM icon problem. I have also tried correcting URL shortcut icons using the Windows
Folder Options > File Types utility but this too did not fix the problem. I also reinstalled KM 1.5.4 several times but the problem persists.

When I click on these generic/corrupt Internet shortcut icons the internet pages open in the default/KM browser.

Could someone please help me fix this corrupted KM icon problem.

Thank you.

I think that in XP the feature is in the 'folder options'. I will have to get my old laptop out and try to find the exact item. What it does is list all the extensions and allow you to select what executable opens each one. One part of this is to select the icon which is included within k-meleon.exe and point the extension to that icon.

KM's setdefault.exe should do this, but there have been problems. Microsoft changed things with each new operating system. It seems they always make it more complex rather than more simple.

not sure if KM 1.6 will ever reach final, caktus.
it may take a long time for that to actually happen now that some of the key developers of KM have left the building.

Hello, Michael

You may have to wait longer still -- quite a bit longer, actually.

But you can try some of the K-Meleon Beta versions, such as rodocop's CommMeleon (download link earlier in the thread).
