IE would I expect Firefox plugins to work in k-meleon?

Thanks

letitbeme2,

Do you mean extensions? Plugins are Gecko-based and those, like Flash, work for all Gecko browsers, including FireFox, Seamonkey and K-meleon, among others.

Extensions that are specifically designed for Firefox and Seamonkey don't work natively in K-meleon because they use software emulation code called XUL and produce XPI extensions.

However, some of the extensions have been ported over to K-meleon when possible and there they use Windows APIs and a macro scripting language that can do a lot.

Hope this helps. Ask some of the others here who are more techie than I for more detailed help.

@Nick, the word plugin is used on the extension's site. Foxies do not use the terminology as accurate as PPL that have seen the first browsers. smiling smiley

@letitbeme2, IMHO this Firefox extension can probably not be ported to K-Meleon. When You unpack (xpi=zip format) it and look into the files You find that it consists of an "overlay" for Firefox.

Firefox/SeaMonkey have a graphical user interface made of something called XUL (related to HTML).

K-Meleon can use XUL items that are self contained single windows (e.g. KM error console) or dialoges (e.g. KM preferences panel).

K-Meleon cannot use items that are loaded onto (as so called overlay) the XUL GUI of Firefox. The overlay gives/adds special gadgets and it continues to use the items of the normal Firefox browser GUI.

This can not be done with K-Meleon - K-Meleon's GUI is from C+ and another type graphic kit. You can hack and load an overlay but You'd miss such GUI items as the URL bar (most of all)...

Many Thanks ndebord & guenter
It seems that I have been using KM for such a long time yet still only know the basics.
I had to work with Firefox for a couple of weeks and although many things appeared to be the same there was just no comparison with the way KM works for me.
It was an extension and I think it is not going to be much use to me if I was able to add it into KM.
Learning to use KM with a couple of windows side by side just suits what I want to do.

Really appreciate coming into the forum and getting help when I need it. Great work.

you can try their opera userscript using either oinerd's greasemeleon or joykiller's greasify extensions
http://www.tiberious.org/projects/nzbed/opera/nzbed.js

greasify
http://www.digivill.net/%7Ejoykillr/kmeleon/greasify-.7.9.3.5-ansi.7z
also see:
http://www.digivill.net/%7Ejoykillr/kmeleon/kmeleon_userscripts.html

greasemeleon
http://kmext.sourceforge.net/files/greasemeleon-xgrind.7z

- don't install greasify or greasemelon together as they will almost certainly conflict. i can't tell you which is better..test greasify first, if it doesn't work; make sure to uninstall it first(delete its macro) and then try greasemeleon

a quick review of the userscript doesn't show any specific opera commands so it should work but don't get your hopes up

okay from a beginners point of view...Where do I start to learn how to use a script in KM.
I am not a linux person so the steps would have to be pretty simple.
Although Firefox is similar it is beginning to frustrate the help out of me. Just doesn't appear to have what I have got in KM and I am a very simple user of KM without many of the additions that many use.
Should I start with a linux op like ? and start to work on from there?
