For testing purposes
I have uploaded a new version K-Meleon0.9-original-updated-1.7.12-plus5 .
Complete update to GRE 1.7.12 of nov/26th/2005.
Pop-up bug fixed by inclusion of two files from 1.7.5 and 1.7.8 .
Right click menu available.
It has some add-ons :
Noscript extension added.
Javascript button toggles in this version javascript allowed
for all sites (red) and only for certain sites, that have been allowed
on the Noscript options page (blue).
For Noscript options go to -->Tools-->Privacy-->Permissions-->Noscript.
Note : Javascript must always be enabled in the Preferences panel.
Active X Support is now enabled, but only for Windows Media Player.
Other ClassIDs can be added in defaults/prefs/activex.js,
if this is desired, but increase possibly the security risk.
New Umlaut macro added.
New Flashblock plugin by kko.
Mime Types Editor.
Translation macro by jsnj.
New SetDefault.exe by Alain.
Some, but fewer search-engines.
Otherwise the look is the original one.

Press the button "FREE" at the bottom of the page (javascript enabled) ,
and extract the file into a fresh folder.

Please report stability and compare version plus4 with plus 5.

Received this reply from Noscript author:

"Thank you very much for your efforts!

I'm not sure of understanding K-Meleon specifics to help, but what I can say
is that the NoScript contextual/statusbar/toolbar menus (the most useful
feature, IMHO) are built on the fly thrugh intensive DOM manipolation, both
at the content level (search pages and sub-frames for script URLs) and at
the chrome level (insert/delete menu items and update their status).
You should somehow adapt the noscriptOverlay.js and noscriptOverlay.xul
files to work with K-Meleon, but currently I've no clue at how.
A new NoScript version I've scheduled for late december 2005/early january
2006 should alternatively spawn a dialog where you can set per-site options
in a more detailed and fine grained, but yet simple way. A XUL dialog, as
far as I've seen in the forum thread you pointed me at, should be easier to
integrate in K-Meleon, shoudn't it?

Anyway, until then, I'm up to answer every specific question you may have on
my code.
Of course, you've my permission to make all the modifications technically
needed for the port.

Thanks again
-- Giorgio "

I have no clue about "DOM manipolation", so if someone else knows how to adapt
noscriptOverlay.js and noscriptOverlay.xul for K-M I'll leave that to someone that knows more about it.

The new release he mentions sounds as if it will be easier to adapt to K-M use.

Uploaded the modified files with Noscript icons, and a bug fix for the tooltip

Thank you for your efforts.
Concerning dom manipulation I am as clueless as you are.
But the basic functions are already a big step forward.

How can we compare Brian's update and Fred's one ?

Isn't there any risk to have some troubles if we replace Fred gecko files by Brian's files?

Do we must replace the older by newer ?
I suppose you are working on the same package, but with differentes updates on nightly folders.

I'malso a bit confused about which update pack should I use. IMHO there should be a more comprehensive changes description on each pack.

Brian has suggested the possibility of an 1'7'12d patch. Is it necesary for a bug on the c edition or what?

Yes I did.

I have now a completely spanish translated SetDefault file (based on yours).
Also I've been able to fully change ALL the icons on K-Meleon (including all icons on .exe files).

I'm now going to dinner (an wonderful salad) and after that I'll start making my next release (is almost finished), using the last Brian's update patch (v1'7'12c).

No, I was asking about Setup program, not setdefault.

I'm always waiting for the last info of Brian or Fred about their concurrent (?) updates.

After fixing it, I'll put my Fr4, and a little later En4 which is the Fr4 translated in ... english smiling smiley

What do you mean by the setup program?

My spanish versions are packed on zip or 7-zip files, without installer (I don't know how to create it, remember, I'm a newbee :-)

Sorry Fred, but I've discovered a problem with what seems to be all your 0.9-original-updated-1.7.12-plus versions accessing the account settings modification page on one of my webmail providers: http://webmail.1and1.co.uk

However, an earlier 0.9/1.7.12 version which I downloaded (I think) from rumpel's post to http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=31042&t=25998 :

Author: rumpel (---.dip.t-dialin.net)
Date: 09-29-05 16:52
Original K-Meleon 0.9 modified to GRE 1.7.12
http://rapidshare.de/files/5683294/KM091712en.exe.html

does work fine. What happens is I get a blank window opening, rather than the entry box and buttons which the Javascript should present. Unfortunately, I don't think I can easily post the source of the page, because of its (lack of) formatting and reference to my personal data.

Sorry about the lack of a handle on this. Any ideas or reports from anyone else?

Aha, Fred, I think I can replicate the problem offline. If you want, you could leave me a stickie here: http://www.aypwip.org/webnote/k-meleon
with your email address and I'll send the HTML file to you (just remember to save the stickie - floppy icon!). I'll delete your address ASAP.

@ Douglas
In the thread concerning my update to version plus 2
I wrote already :
An update to 1.7.12 should ideally contain all the files.
Because of the pop-up bug it was necessary this time to
use 2 old files : gkwidget.dll from 1.7.5, and to get the right
click context menu back also gklayout.dll from 1.7.8, which was
the last one that works together with gkwidget.dll. It differs only
slightly in size from the latest .dll version.
To have a history box, it was always necessary to keep
embed_lite.dll from the 1.7.5 version, because it is not in GRE
anymore.
All the other files are updated to GRE 1.7.12, and I think that
is how it should be as a basic principle.

So if the popup bug is not annoying you ( it doesnt bother me,
and I presume that it is only annoying, if you are on a slow
dial-up connection, and pages need a long time to load), you
can of course use the original files gkwidget.dll and gklayout.dll
from GRE 1.7.12 in the components folder, and have then the
complete update.
I have uploaded these AdditionalFiles to Rapidshare at :

http://rapidshare.de/files/8516498/AdditionalFilesKM1.7.12-112605.zip.html

Replace the files in components by them and delete there
compreg.dat and xpti.dat before you restart the browser.
They will be rebuilt.

The version with the two old replaced files is the closest
possibility to a complete 1.7.12 without the pop-up bug.
Otherwise a true update to 1.7.12 is not possible, because
all newer files cause the pop-up bug.

Please try the complete update with the website, that
does not work correctly.

An other possibility , why javascript does not work there
could be the new Noscript extension, which partly disables
Javascript.
The version plus 2 has not yet included Noscript.

This version has already fixed the pop-up bug.

The first version plus has the complete 1.7.12 from sept/14th/2005
but without the pop-up bug fix.

@ Douglas
I get the same page view with all browser versions,
namely two text boxes and one button, named "Login",
also with the official 0.9 it looks the same.
Do you expect to see more buttons ?
Have you enabled Javascript in the Preferrences Panel,
as well as on Noscript''s options xul page ?

Hello Fred,

Thanks for all your help, but unfortunately, having tried everything you suggested, it still doesn't work, with ANY of the 1.7.12 plus versions, from the very oldest to the newest plus5. (I knew that Noscript wasn't the problem because I had your original plus without Noscript and the same problem arose).

On the webmail entry page, you will see the same on all versions, but it's on a further page once you logon that the problem starts. I can send the offending page to you to look at offline, which shows the effect.

I must be off to bed now and will look again tomorrow at this!

Cheers,
Douglas

I have also certain difficulties with mail.
Try to go to Noscript options
chrome://noscript/content/noscriptOptions.xul
watch if Javascript globally is checked
and click once on the OK button.
Reload the mail page, this helped here.

Rumpels version is not available anymore, but
in his 1.7.8 version I have seen that it was only a partial update
with many files from 1.7.5 in components. Probably
this will have been the same in his 1.7.12 version.
Regards
Fred

Have now tried that Fred, to no avail either. Here's a (slightly hacked) copy of the offending page: http://www.mc-fadzean.fsnet.co.uk/computing/091712bug.html

You'll see nowt but a blank window with 'plus', but an input box and a couple of buttons with the other browsers.

Also, I can upload Rumpel's 1.7.12 if you need it - I still have his original.

Sorry about the hassle over this, because I really like your 'plus' versions!

Douglas

The fault was in userContent.css.
I do not know yet exactly where.
You can either delete it in chrome of your Profiles folder,
what would be a pity, because it is a good ad blocker,
or else use this lttle work-around, which brings up
the text box and the two buttons :

just add above the line /* ----BLOCK ADS---- */
the following

<STYLE TYPE="text/css" MEDIA=screen >

</STYLE>

which works, although I do not know why.
I found out, because I use my own Style sheet
for all pages, and this here is just empty.

I hope it will work

I found a bug with Noscript.

This happens with/without Noscript enabled.

To reproduce it, right-click on the "kmelogo.gif" at the top of the green bar on the left of this forum.

Then click "Image Properties...", when you click OK in the javascript dialog, a second identical dialog appears, and you have to click OK again.

It's something to do with the JSenable toggle:

JSEnable {
getpref(BOOL,$jscript)==false ? &JS:macros($macro);
getpref(STRING,$nscript)==noAccess ? &NS:macros($macro); <---- this line
}

I don't know of a workaround, and "this line" is needed for some macros to work with Noscript enabled.

Any ideas ?

@ Douglas
If it still should not show in plus 5,
try to go to Noscript options
chrome://noscript/content/noscriptOptions.xul
watch if Javascript globally is checked
and click once on the OK button.
Reload the mail page
(may be still a bug in the Noscript versions).

Sorry...

I found what causes it now.

If you have "Automatically reload affected pages...." checked in Noscripts options it happens, if it's unchecked it doesn't happen.

If there's anyway perhaps this pref should be disabled/removed in K-M ?

Well, that didn't fix it, for some reason this happens on some sites, with Noscript disabled, some it doesnt happen at all.

This is not so heavy.
May be that jsnj, who is our macros specialist,
can improve the macro.

Good man Fred!

Your userContent.css tip worked - when the ad blocking stuff is removed it seems to work fine, just like the other versions of 0.9/1.7.12. I'm not bothered much about the ad blocking (I use an extensive HOSTS file anyway).

Many thanks for your help in pinning down the problem.

Cheers,
Douglas
