Another update - just keeping things current. This update is based on the latest 1.7 tree as of today (so its lightly more current then the official 1.7.12).

For whatever reason, my K-Meleon 0.9 runs noticeably faster with the new BB 1.7.12 update than it did with the BB 1.7.11b update.

For whatever reason, in 3 attempts to download this update, I've managed to get a maximum speed of 0.71 bps. Will try again later to see if I can get a decent download speed.

Ha ha! Ndebord, it came in so slowly--I kid you not--that while the download was in progress, I went into the Internet again, downloaded a new copy of Opera, installed Opera and set it up, and used Opera for a different try for Brian's download.

Hey--it didn't work!! I tried using Opera, IE6, and K-Meleon. Eventually I had a whole bunch of them, several hours after hell had frozen over and all the cows had come home.

No doubt it is just bandwidth. Um, there isn't any.

But have faith! You will get your download.

could it be running with Dorian's exe ?

@Brian, I have 2 questions. I think I'm fine on this, but I just want to check:

-- I have a very nice config of your 1.7.11b (aka 1.7.12) which I've been using as my default K-Meleon. Tonight, setting up this brand new 1.7.12 (the "real" 1.7.12), it occurred to me that the two versions were so similar that I could do this:

-- copy my skin
-- copy my entire Profile

from 1.7.11b straight into 1.7.12. It worked perfectly. The new K-M came up looking exactly like the old one. Success!

My questions:

(1) In fact this is as good as it looks, right? I won't have compromised any of the new 1.7.12 update settings by doing this?

(2) And, um, is there anywhere I can go and look to SEE for myself that this really is a different version from my 1.7.11b? Remember, 1.7.11b identifies itself as 1.7.12. That makes my two K-Meleons absolutely identical, unless you can tell me where I can go to see some little difference, just to prove to myself that everything is okay.

Maybe Brian or one of the regulars here could confirm that the Rapidshare file is bona fide.

The two files do not have the same checksums. The download on Rapidshare "feels" just fine, and I'm sure it is. I was using DoubleKill to compare the files, and that isn't the best method.

I was wondering why Brian Bruns didn't put the file on RapidShare where we'd stand a chance of being able to download it? I, too, would love to have the real file from Brian, as I'm sure others would as well. I just can't leave my browser up for over an hour to get it.

Reminds me of the "Good Ol' Days" when I used to update Netscape and I sat around for an hour and 45 mins waiting for the full 28meg package on my 33.6 modem. LOL! Rather odd doing so on a t2.

Oh well. C'est la morte!

I refuse to rely on other people to host stuff for me unless I absolutely have to. The server that the file is on has alot of bandwidth, however I pay out the wazzoo for the bandwidth.

There are people here who use leeching/download programs that start up 4-20 connections all at once to the server and suck down my bandwidth in an attempt to bypass bandwidth restrictions. Those are the people who are at fault for the fact you have such slow downloads. I try to block them, however they change their user-agent ot be a legit web browser and bypass the block.


Try downloading in a few hours and speed should be better.

What are the installation instructions for the update? Do I need to unintall KM 0.9 first or just run the update .exe file?

I think you must delete some files:

in chrome folder:

overlayinfo folder
chrome.rdf

in components folder:
-------------------------------
xpti.dat
compreg.dat

in profiles\<profilename>\<?.slt>
-----------------------------------------------
xul.mfl

in profiles\<profilename>\<?.slt>\chrome
----------------------------------------------------------
chrome.rdf

and install the files in chrome and components folder

A+

install into k-m directory / check/watch info that all is over written properly.
- normally install over old is good enough (afaik Brian created it that way).

deinstall of browser is never needed.

p. s. alain knows for sure / he does update himself
/ plus his is part of the instruction good for doing it with help from Mozilla sources
/ the places he mentiones is where You check and delete by hand
if ... You update alone - or create an update alone
but also if You want k-m to auto-renew them after other chrome or xpt changes...
example when You install ff extensions by hand
- so this info is usefull not only for updates.
