Problem copying *.tmp files

Hi.

Is there any way to copy the *.tmp files that kmeleon creates in the 'Temp' folder?

I use k-meleon quite a bit.
Sometimes relevant data is not stored in the cache but in the 'Temp' folder by kmeleon.

this is the Error msg i get when i try to copy any of them:
-------------------------------------------------------------
File Copy failed.
Windows error = 32: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another proccess
----------------------------------------------------------------
..and there are buttons on the dialog to : Abort, Rety or Ignore

- after i close the relevant kmeleon window the .tmp files dissapear from the 'Temp' folder too,.. so there is no chance to copy them.

Would appreciate any help or info

thankyou.

That's normal. Instead of Linux, Windows isn't able to copy or open a file which is open by a process.

To be able to do that, you must close K-Meleon, or force K-Meleon to close it (I suppose you're trying to keep flv file) by opening another flv link. In fact in this case, it's flashplayer plugin which lock it.

hi jujuland, yes trying to save flv files & the like.. cause sometimes they are stored in the temp directory & not the kmeleon cache.
- they are stored as *.tmp files though
- if i close the relevant window.. then the associated .tmp file dissapears too

didn't get that part of yours about opening another link.
I think windows could open it if the opening process set the file permissions as such

i guess there is no way to do this then..

~ many thanks ~

You must use the modified version of flashplayer which don't delete tmp file.

I think that you must first uninstall flashplayer, but I'm not sure, it's perhaps enough to just replace npswf32.dll with the patched version, and perhaps a plugins subfolder where flashplayer may have things is perhaps to remove.

The modified version is avalaible on K-Meleon Extension Central (see in Extension forum)

You also may find some extension to preview and save these temp files.

where is the Flash plugin installed by default ?.. in the KMeleon_Installation_Dir\Plugins\ Folder or in the '\k-meleon_ProfileName\Plugins' folder ?

thx

Edit: Or does kmeleon directly use the plugin from a Sea Monkey installation ? cause i have a SeaMonkey installation on my comp too.
In any case can someone confirm what folder is the proper folder to install the plugin into - 'K-Meleon_Installation_Dir\Plugins\' Folder ?

ps: . if you have a link to the patched NPSWF32.dll ..please point me to it

If the Flash plugin is installed by its installer the path is:

./Windows/system32/macromed/flash

Before flash version 9.28 (if I remember version right) flash plugins were installed in the Program folder e.g. SeaMonkey plugins. It was a FAQ becuae it never found/knew K-Meleon. sad smiley

When SeaMonkey and K-Meleon (default install) were installed they informed the system that they are a Mozilla product. That makes that the system informes them about the flash location.

If You want to force K-Meleon (SeaMonkey, Firefox...any Gecko browser) to use a specific flash plugin version for example the patched one (we are talking about) You place it in

KMeleon_Installation_Dir\Plugins\

The default location is on an English system in

./program files/K-Meleon/plugins/

greetings to IN and FR from De (Germany)

p.s. The plugins in ./K-Meleon/Plugins/ are always used first if other plugins can also handle the same content. I use this mechanism often smiling smiley

I run in the same problem.

But NOT the flasplayer lock the file. K-meleon do that!

I know it, because I use K-meleon and Opera browsers and I figured out in Opera I CAN COPY temp files.
I use this method to copy flv files, only difference in that browser its save the flv data in a file with TMP extension.

When I used it under Windows, I had this problem too, but to solved it, I just launch the player once (on the same link), and stop it. Using flashplayer with another file unlock the one I want to keep.

Now under Ubuntu, no problem, I can copy it, run it during the time flashplayer is updating it. So I think it's first a Windows problem, and a little (as it isn't avalaible) perhaps a K-Meleon problem.
