Forget the previous Flash 17 betas from gils. They're old.

Thanks for the heads up about the new Flash Player ESR version 18 arriving in August ... more changes.

From what I can tell ... this new version should still work with Windows XP.

This time, the latest version to test compatibility as it will be the ESR from August.

NPSWF32_18_0_0_160.7z

At least, till the above version, 18.x branch works with Windows 2000 with wrappers/kernel extenders too.

Thanks for the link to the new ESR blog entry and to notify us of the new version, 4td8s. I just forget in what day I live winking smiley and I don't follow Adobe's blog, nor have automatic updates (basically doesn't work on 2K either)...

Thanks 4td8s and JohnHell for the new flash news and download ... I am not 100% sure the new version is working in XP.

Everything seems OK so far ... it is reconized at two flash test sites I use.

This one will test and ID which version of flash and shockwave are installed ... JavaScript must be on or working.

Looks might be related to flashblock.

The first time the site said I hadn't flash installed, then after allowed in adobe test site (the one you should care about), it did.

Another test site

Forget what some tests say expecting whatever special environment.

@callahan & JohnHell: Yup Flash 18 works on XP SP3 and with Win2k + unofficial kernel extenders/wrappers but you still must have the required hardware to use Flash 18 (aka. 2.33Ghz single core or uni-core Intel x86 CPU/processor or faster, Intel Atom 1.6Ghz dual-core CPU for netbooks, 512Mb of physical RAM, 1Gb of RAM for netbooks, and 128Mb of video RAM)

Flash Player 18 may not work well on old hardware with relatively weak CPUs and/or old graphics cards with less than 128Mb of graphics memory.

I've upgraded my custom built PC with an old Intel board that used to have an Intel Pentium 4 Hyperthread (641) 3.2Ghz processor to an Intel Pentium D (945) 3.4Ghz CPU. It also had 2Gb of physical RAM and had onboard ATI Xpress 200 graphics chipset with 128Mb of video RAM with Windows 7 x64. I might try running KM 75 RC3 & Flash Player 18 on a separate hard drive using Windows XP x64 edition. The OSes I'm using on my custom built PC are now 64-bit instead of 32-bit because the CPUs have 64-bit instruction set on them.

You can use 32 bit XP 4 CPU like: "CPU Type mobile DualCore AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56, 1800 MHz (9 x 200)" Copy & paste from Everest Ultimate - which detects hardware & more.

The only computers I have at present are three Pentium M ThinkPads from around 2004/2005 time frame ... with XP SP3 installed ... all seems OK for now.

Thanks 4td8s, guenter, JohnHell and others ... good to still be able to use the newer version of flash coming in August. This information that you have posted ... will be good for others with questions also.

My above machine is from around 2007. It originally came with Vista.
But AFAIK it pretty much has the same specs as Your Pentium M Thinkpad.
Mine is a FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO Pa 2510. I also have 2 more such machines.

With Vista it was so unbearably slow (even with 2 GB RAM) that I first installed dual boot XP/Vista. And when I had found all XP drivers I gave Vista the coup de grace which put the PC and me out of misery. grinning smiley

Yes You can slim it before install with vlite. But I did not know then.

Plus XP can be slimmed with nlite. No way to beat that with Vista/vlite. IMHO.

I'm not going to compare XP and Vista in terms of system load. XP is way lighter.

But you can tweak Vista (if there is no other option) even after install.

I had at least one case of hardcore optimization of Vista on the laptop with 1Gb of RAM - and I've got it working smooth.

(Disclaimer: I don't like Vista anyway)

A behavior I just found with YouTube and K-meleon, starting today, is that, with independence of the version of flash (13.x or 18.x), if you have the user agent set to default, without Firefox compatible option, it plays the HTML5 version.

I post this in this thread just in case happens to someone and thinks the versions aren't recognized or compatible with K-meleon.

Just had a prob with youtube too, wanted to play a video and - nothing. Just a black box. Looks like youtube sends no flash anymore to KM1.6, only html5 videos. Which don't play either, no idea if due to KM1.6 or just my profile. Obviously the almighty google/youtube boss decided I shouldn't be allowed to view videos anymore tongue sticking out smiley

Finally figured out that IE7 user agent helped, and FF2.1
Then reading this post: Oh - all it takes is a FF agent??
Bingo - you're right! Had forgotten to test with FF3.5, incredible grinning smiley

Hmm, forgot it because in the past an older FF agent used to give "old browser" warnings on youtube, unlike the native KM1.6 agent - or so I thought. Perhaps I remembered that wrong, or perhaps youtube actually removed that warning now?? At any rate it doesn't show, with neither KM nor old FF name.
