I just went to the Adobe flash page to check for any new versions ... this warning popped up. Anybody understand this or what it means ?

I've used this page for several years.

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Adobe Flash Player Distribution

If you are not an enterprise user, please visit get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download Adobe Flash Player for your system.

Enterprise users must have a valid license to download and distribute Adobe Flash Player binaries. Instructions and further details can be found at www.adobe.com/products/players/flash-player-distribution.html.

Please note that starting December 1st, 2015 you will be required to create an AdobeID to request an enterprise distribution license.

Thank you for your interest in Adobe Flash Player.

IMPORTANT: Please review the system requirements for detailed information on supported operating systems, browsers, and languages before downloading and installing this software.

... I'm wondering where the download links will be in the future?

I went here to get my download for IE 8 and then I download JohnHell's version for K-Meleon.

Looks like they will force a license agreement to have direct access to that page and to the binaries for later distribution, even for IT departments and their deployment across the systems of the company.

The binaries would be still available in the archive page, unless they block it too.

The damn problem is that the archive files require a full download for the main version XX.yy when you just want to download a single version xx.YY and they are not as fast to update them.

EDIT: I forgot the link winking smiley

I would be careful when it comes to downloading from Mediafire. Right after I downloaded this Flash update I was redirected to an advertisement about winning a new iPhone. The page was designed to look like a Google page, and also referred to my local ISP by name. They gave themselves away by mistakenly referring to my "Windows phone". I don't own one, and in fact, I never use a mobile phone on the internet. Naturally they wanted me to log on to a phony site, but I'm not that stupid!

Well, as the saying goes, there's a first time for everything. grinning smiley

Every visit I've made to Mediafire over the past year has brought up various ads in new tabs (despite ad and popup blocking), but this was the first time I encountered an attempt at phishing. Normally I could easily prevent such things by blocking JavaScript, but on Mediafire that also disables downloads. On SourceForge, which has some of the slowest downloads I've ever seen, I keep JS blocked and use their direct link. Some sites won't even show you their download links without JavaScript.

PS: The phony page pretended to be "Google Membership Rewards" and had the Google logo in the upper left corner. I wasn't logged in to any Google services at the time.

Strange! My hosts file doesn't seem to have any effect on K-Meleon, yet I notice in Firefox that some of the URLs I blocked in my hosts file can't be loaded in YouTube's side bar; this is without any ad blocker at all.

Anyway, I won't be needing MediaFire now, anyway, having downloaded the latest release of Flash 18. If I need to update beyond that, I can simply remove Flash 18 from KM's plugin folder and let KM use Version 20, which I fully installed for Firefox.

This is the second time I read this to you. First time I preferred to stay in silence, but...

There is only one scenario where this can happen: proxy.

If you use a proxy, then, the DNS resolution is not made by your Windows, but by the proxy server, and the hosts file is ignored completely.

Make sure that you aren't using a proxy with K-meleon.

To be really, really, really sure, type about:config in the url bar and find the preference "network.proxy.type". It must be 0.

A site to check you aren't behind a proxy:

No, I've never used a proxy with either of my two browsers on this machine; both of them show no proxy, and they are connected directly to the internet. The last time I used a proxy was in 2010, and that was on my old pocket pc, on which I was running the UC Browser, which always used a proxy server. Could a wifi router be the problem? I connect through my home router, but that's connected to my ISP's cable network, and the ISP doesn't use proxies, either.

Anyway, thanks for your help, and I apologize for my apparent ignorance.

PS: I just pinged several of the blocked sites in my hosts file and got the intended IP result for each of them: 127.0.0.1 .

I'm throwing this idea out for experimentation ... I've used this program for many years ... when I still used Win98SE and now XP. I think it may also work with Win 7 but not 100% sure.

Once you get to know this program you may like it ... it's always working when I'm online and sometimes I have to put it on by-pass. You will learn as you use it. It may be of some help when online.

The Proxomitron by Scott R. Lemmon

http://www.proxomitron.info/

The Author:

Scott R. Lemmon originally developed the Proxomitron for his own use. He then decided to release it to the public and made himself available to users via email and in several Proxomitron user-discussion groups. His support, like his program, was always free.

With the release of Naoko 4.5, Scott discontinued all further development and support of his program and pulled the official home of Proxomitron off the Web. We respected his decision to move on and wished him all the best -- which is, after all, what he consistently gave to us.

Sadly, one year later, Scott died -- but his brilliance of mind and spirit lives on. Simply put, Proxomitron is a reflection of its creator: To know Scott's program . . . is to know Scott Lemmon.

The Un-Official Proxomitron Forum

http://www.prxbx.com/forums/

There is a filter set by Sidki that many people use ... it replaces nothing that Scott Lemmon placed into Proxomitron ... it adds to it.

sidki-config: Oct 23 2010

http://www.prxbx.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=44

The program may be of some use with various browsers. Just experiment and see how it might work on your computer.

URGENCY: ULTRA HIGH

NPSWF32_18_0_0_343 (ESR)

Versions prior to this one are being exploited very actively to drop ranswomware (virus that encrypt local files) and looks like are able to run the dropped virus (what still amazes me if this is confirmed).
