Is there a working spellcheck for v 1.60 yet? I have tried looking through the forums and all questions and references are bogged down with technical jargon...I just want to know if a non tech end user can have spell check?

Yes, spelltest kplugin works works for 1.6 now, mark307 fixed it.

At K-meleon Extensions Repository for install with the extensions manager.

Spell Check 2

spell checks your spelling as you type. misspelt words get highlighted with a red underline, right clicking displays word suggestions to choose from. supports many languages/dictionaries.
menu entry: text-input context>spell check
extra notes: -
versions supported: 1.6.x

Also at:

http://dhost.info/kmeleonskins/spelltest-0.0.8-for_1.6beta.zip

As downlaod & extract version.

spelltest.kmm goes to ./k-meleon1.6/macros folder
spelltest.dll goes to ./k-meleon1.6/klpugins folder

You can reuse the dictionaries from 1.5.4.

Copy the whole dictionaries folder to ./K-meleon1.6/dictionaries.

Uhm, would recommend to click on "Spelltest 2" to download a "normal" extension, which contains the folder structure. It can be unzipped directly into the KM root folder, as usual. No more actions required except restarting of course.
The other link on dhost is the older original "experts install" version, where files have to be sorted manually
