Don't forget that K-Meleon 1.5 is a much newer browser
than Firefox 1.5 or Internet Explorer 6, and it has
much fewer safety problems.
Firefox 1.5 is from 2005, and it can be compared to
the mentioned K-Meleon-0.8.2+-Wechselbalg, which
is dating from 2004. This version was, compared to FF 1.5,
about 30% smaller.
You could also consider my chromeless variation
K-Meleon-NX18124, which was updated until 2010, and
which has about the size of the old FF 1.5 .
As it has no Xul-chrome, there aren't any extensions usable.

If you do not have the 71 runtimes already in your system,
you can install them, using the KM082-DLL-install.exe
from Techjunks site, here :
http://techjunk.nl/data/kmeleon/KM082-DLL-Install.exe
This is also needed, if you would choose to use
K-Meleon-0.8.2+-Wechselbalg from Techjunks site, here:

If using old browser versions, be careful to
turn off javascript as often as possible, and
to use it only if this is absolutely necessary.
For very old browsers, it is IMHO also not advisable
to use the flash plugin.
