Windows Media Player doesn't work

Hi,
hope my question is not too stupid.
I have started KM 0.8.1. Everything is working well but I can't open video-sequences in the internet. Doing this with the windows media Player there are only signs and letters on the whole display.
I have controlled the installed plugins. Under
"Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library" everything is enabled. what is wrong ? Is it perhaps because I installed KM not in the system partition ? I' using
XP home.
Hope, somebody can help.
Norbert

I have the same problem. I've searched previous threads in the forum but can't find the solution.

I have the same happening in Mozilla with WMV files.
The respons in the Mozilla group was, that the mime-type of the page containing the wmv file wasn't set correctly and Mozilla treats this as a txt file.
So I suppose the same happens in K-M also.
Only cure is have the webmaster correct the page.
Unfortunalely IE recognises the file format by another means and calls the Windows Media Player.

I've managed to get it working now, by reinstalling WMP, so I guess some of its program files must have got corrupted.

Yes, that is what the devs of all open source have to fight.
A webmaster builds a page and it all works in IE on M$ servers. He doesn't know (nor need care) what the standards are, cos it works.
Then we come along, follow the rules and spend hours working out ways to hack a fix to it.
So, my tip. If it doesn't work in KM, then leave the site alone.
