How to get rid of "Address Not Found" Placeholders?

Hi,

for some reasons, I use a rather strange approach of ad-blocking:

I have to access the web via proxy here, and if I circumvent the proxy, the address will not be found unless I use the real IP address. So I set my (multiple) browsers to circumvent the proxy for all those annoying ad servers. (Yes, there are probably better ways for ad-blocking, but this gives me a convenient list that can easily be copied and pasted into every browser. It is essentially a variation of the hostfile method. Using the hostfile itself doesn't work, unfortunately.)
Result: No ads. So far, so good.

But now I have placeholders instead of the ads, with a lot of ugly green and warning signs and messages like "Address Not Found - ad.doubleclick.net could not be found. Please check the name and try again."
I could live with the stupid message itself, but I want to get rid of the green and the warning signs.

Does anyone know how to do that?

I still use v. 1.02, but that's probably irrelevant here.

TIA
Alex
