KM 1.1.2 GRE Update! (Yay!)
Date: October 17, 2007 02:59AM
Yes, I am back, I've done another GRE update, using pieces from KM 1.5a's Gecko engine and put them into KM 1.1.2.
K-Meleon 1.1.2 Gecko 1.8.1.8 Update
I probably wont be doing this all too often, but I figured, WTH! Just like old times.
Working on slightly better file hosting too... But for now, on rapidshare.

Many thanks!
It's always a pleasure to hear back from you, you always carry good news with yourself.
It's a bit annoying needing to perform two updates to install K-Meleon (1.1.2 and 1.8.1.8 patch), but of course is much better than keeping the old GRE.
Maybe it's time for a full GRE 1.8.1.8 K-Meleon release? Maybe a full K-Meleon 1.1.3 with installer?

Great work!!
I love these easy updates. Now I have both 1.1.2 and 1.5a1 with modern GRE.

I can make a single installer/updater if people want me to... Can someone point me to the location of K-Meleon 1.1.2's NSIS build file (has a .nsi extension)?

See our
CVS. Create a subfolder "k-meleon" next to k-meleon.nsi. Put all files into this folder.

Okay, done! The installer is built as KM 1.1.2a, Started out with 1.1.1, then updated it to 1.1.2, then added my extra stuff on top of it.
If for the time being someone wants to make this an official update or release, I'm open to the idea.

I assume yours is the english version of the installer, isn't it?
Looks like it would be easy to have an official 1.1.3.

Yes it is. If a non-english build of the installer is needed, I can do that too, just give me a list of langs.

Well,
here are all the official 1.1 versions. But maybe we should better wait to hear Dorian's and KKO's opinion about an official 1.1.3.
Re: KM 1.1.2 GRE Update! (Yay!)

I hope Dorian's and kko's opinion is favourable.
If it is a easy job for You to accoplish. It helps perhaps to share the work between more helpers. You could perhaps update without occupying time of devs whose time is too valuable for a routine job.
K-Meleon does not really need all GRE updates because it is often not effected - but it is a free advertisement to have all GRE updates
Some PPL need GRE updates because they do more security sensitive things - and would like max. achievable security standards. If we had a chance an extra update that is technically not urgent enough for Dorian's time would give them a better feeling

Is this update compatible with Pocket Kmeleon 1.1.2 (ES)?
I prefer to ask it first before install.

Don't know exactly, but most probably yes.

Pocket K-Meleon 1.12.
Yes; You can use components from the full installer, the makers may know better solutions - or do a update package soon?
Create a backup before You do anything (as always
).
You may want to pack the files? Files for portables are treeted with upx a exe and dll packer to get less size; this not needed; it is a relic from the past when USB-sticks were small and expensive
Needed files: You use all dll and xpt in ./components (delete ./components/compreg.dat and xpti.dat)
plus all dll in root folder where K-Meleon.exe is.
Exception: xpcom_core.dll must come from a compilation that is made with version 6 of MS C+ compiler - You can probably continue to use the one present in Your 1.12.
The other files need no update.

I have updated Pocket Kmeleon spanish version to gecko 1.8.1.8 sucessful.
Menus are still in spanish, when I expected them in english
I read Maria instructions and I updated it manually copying the new folders and the files to the Pocket Kmeleon directory as she said.
Everything works fine.
Thank you all.

Many thanks for all your work on these updates!
I tried to update my K-Meleon 1.1.2 to the 1.1.2a version. I used the update program and also the full install program. In both cases, K-Meleon now reads as 1.1.2a but the Gecko still says (rv:1.8.1) and (Gecko/20061010), the same as before. So I am not sure if the GRE really updated or not.
Thanks for any help.

A number of things can go wrong. Easier to upload a package than to explain.
http://rapidshare.com/files/69184124/K-Meleon1.1.2en-US.exe.html
Fully updated package 1.1.2. Best install into another installation name - then You have two working K-Meleons.
No warranties. & always scan for virus - even with downloads of known ppl and friends.

Larry,
You must have your user agent set to default to see the updated GRE. If you have it set to spoof as Firefox, it will give you the message you are describing.

This is a very basic question.
I installed K-Meleion 1.1.2 and the additional software "Updater".
Does this updater check for updated versions of K-Meleon and install them in my already installed K-Meleion Browser?
And should a selection appear under the word "Help" in the Menu Bar so as to select "Check for Updates?"

Hi everyone.
This is still a mystery. As Jmike suggested, I set the user agent to default. Seperately, I also did a totally fresh full install into a new folder. In both cases, it says that the GRE is 1.8.1.6.
I still can't seem to get the GRE of 1.8.1.8 that Brie Bruns was working on.
Thus, I failed the Scanit test. The test said K-Meleon would have passed with the GRE of 1.8.1.8 but that K-Meleon 1.1.2a is still only 1.8.1.6
It is still a fine browser. Appreciate everyone's work. Just confused what happened to the GRE of 1.8.1.8
Thanks much to all.

The version nr. is AFAIK set by necko.dll - and its mainly gklayout.dll and such that we need to update. And this was IMHO done.
One or the other update should suffice until an official update comes.
I assume bruns updated all needed file (but maybe not necko
. I trust his update!
Mine should also work
And my upload includes the User Agent update.

I don't know what are the files for the version, but using the first file of this post my version changed automatically to:
bla (bla bla,
rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071013 K-Meleon/1.1.2
I did "manually" [the copy of the files] because I wanted to check them before applying but, anyway, check that after the install, if it's not correctly done, that the xpti.dat and compreg.dat from the components folder are deleted (I think is the help of the website too). And have closed K-meleon

Yes! Using the very first file of this thread (Brie Bruns post from October 17, 2007 02:59AM) K-Meleon has fully updated to Gecko version 1.8.1.8
Likewise, it passes the browser security test at
http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/
Thanks to all.

Dear MS Bruns
Thanks for your sterling work on 112a single file exe- it works faster than official build <grin>
Would really appreciate if you could make a 113build with latest fixes.
Thanks/Merry Christmas

Okay, I figured out what is breaking the update I was doing (and excluded the chome.* in components).
May I present,
K-Meleon 1.1.3-gecko1.8.12pre.
Also, something to help with compatibility, set this as your user-agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12pre) Gecko/20071211 K-Meleon/1.1.3 Firefox/2.0.0.11
