Is it still safe to use good but old K-Meleon? Some people are saying it is irresponsible, because the browser has not been updated for a very long time.

I would hate to part with K-Meleon, although there are problems on a number of web pages, unfortunately a growing number of pages.

Two thoughts for you... use useragent switcher which helps with some pages, also use the browser.kmm file (search for it.... it allows you to load up any and all other browsers that you care to use.

I right click on a page that refuses to work completely with K-Meleon and load up FireFox 8 (portable) with the browser macro. A kludge, but it works.

I don't know how to use the macro.

browser.kmm is in the macros folder and macro extensions is enabled, but I can't find the macro anywhere (yes, after restart).

Sorry, I"m not the author. Try this. Look in the main menu TOOLS, you should see an entry for Open in Browser. Click on it and it should say Add a new Browser. Then it will ask you for a name for this browser. Pick something. Then Windows Explorer will popup and you must scroll to the program folder and then click on the browser executable file that you wish to add. If all goes well, the next time you are on a webpage that K-Meleon fails to handle properly, just right click on that page and the name you picked should show. Click on it and the page will be sent to that other browser where hopefully the webpage will work properly.

P.S. And why not to migrate to KM 1.6? It's compatible with almost all modern sites and it's secure, especially in this version:

Indeed, I managed to unzip and copy the kmextman stuff to the K-Meleon folder. However, I still can't see the macro.

Whatever, I do not really want to add another browser, let alone IE. As yet I can do without the web pages not properly working with K-Meleon. In most cases, if not all cases, it is only a matter of bad display.

Still, you should at least have one other Gecko browser available to you for that moment when you absolutely must get to a particular website. I found that having Firefox as the backup browser with a right click was a fast way to get things done when absolutely necessary.

So, KM 1.6-1.7 are relatively good while 1.5.4 and older - definitely outdated particularly in security section
