new variation : K-Meleon1.5.1-Linux

I have uploaded to Rapidshare a new unofficial variation version :
K-Meleon1.5.1-Linux .
This is an adapted variation of K-Meleon 1.5.1 ,
usable in Linux together with Wine , or also in Windows,
updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.17 using Gecko/20080919.
NoScript and Adblock included.

In Linux :
Download the tarball or the zip file to your home directory
and unpack it as user into your home directory, but don't start it
from there. Instead copy the unpacked folder as root to an USB stick.
The browser will only work correctly from a USB flash drive or from a cdrom.
Add the files msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll to the K-Meleon folder on the USB stick.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
Start it as a user from the USB stick with the wine command.
Ir will take a moment to start the first time, but should then work ok.
The reason for the behaviour seems to be, that wine has problems to create
the components files compreg.dat and xpti.dat anew correctly.

In Windows :
There should be no problems with that, and the browser should
work from everywhere. In Windows the file "profile.ini2" should be renamed
to "profile.ini" before the first start, to create a separate profile.

Note :
* This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll
and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.
* In Linux the URL bar is only usable with more recent wine versions.
If you are using an older wine version, use the URL button to open an URL prompt.
* Real Tabs are now implemented. Tabs are now usable in Linux too, while
Layers were not working well in Linux before.

* NoScript extension included. Thanks to Giorgio Maone (http://maone.net), jujuland and desga2.
* AdblockPlus extension included. Thanks to Wladimir Palant (http://adblockplus.org), and jujuland.
* To use NoScript, Javascript has always to be enabled.
* Many additional Search Engines in the menu bar, opening in a new window.
* Newsfox RSS collection for English, German and French newspapers and Linux newssites added.
* You can delete Newsfox Groups of unwanted languages to avoid long loading times.
* Keyboard shortcuts:
Page back : (right)ctrl + left arrow
Page forward : (right)ctrl + right arrow
Close Window : (right)ctrl + down arrow
Go to home : (right)ctrl + up arrow

Hi Fred,

Thanks for this job

For dat files, you can perhaps use the one generated under Windows. These files have inifile structure

compreg.dat has no folder info, and you must not have problem with it
xpti folder has just two folder names (components and plugins), and I think you just have to modify the drive letter and perhaps the path to be in harmony with the structure used by wine

A+

Thanks for the support, Jujuland.
The browser as it is would work in Linux from a USB-stick
or a cdrom.
To make it work from another location, the user would
have to open himself the file xpti.dat in a texteditor
and change the path to the exact location of the browser
in the parts Header and Directories before the first start
of the browser.
This path can be different, because for example the
home folder differs and could be of the form
Z:\home\username\etc
and the username can not be predicted.
So if a user would be willing to edit xpti.dat himself
the problem should be eliminated.

Regards
Fred

I have seen now, that KM-Linux1.5.1 has been touched by
the new 10 downloads limit, and have uploaded it to
Rapidshare.de as well, where this limit seems not to exist yet.

The download addresses for Rapidshare.de are :

as a zipfile
http://rapidshare.de/files/40942147/K-Meleon1.5.1-Linux.zip.html
and as a tarball :
http://rapidshare.de/files/40942116/K-Meleon1.5.1-Linux.tar.gz.html

I will also put these new download links on the page for
unofficial K-Meleons, here :

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/UKmeleon

Do not forget that his version works only in Linux if you have the files
msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
