Perhaps the next release of K-meleon should be delayed to incorporate the Gecko engine from FF 2.0.0.19/SM 1.1.14.

I'm not sure but I think Seamonkey never used Firefox's anti-phising methods.
Firefox SafeMode was available only from Firefox's command line options:
firefox.exe -safe-mode

I never used it.

Always backup the files that You want to replace.

There might be easier ways but the described procedure gives You a way back!


You can install or unpack K-Meleon 1.5.2 RC somewhere, copy to K-Meleon 1.5.1 files from ./K-Meleon1.5.2/kplugins folder and ./K-Meleon1.5.2/*.exes, use 1.5.2 ./K-Meleon1.5.2/components/chrome.dll and chrome.xpt. And update the rest of the ./K-Meleon1.5.1/components/*.dll and ./K-Meleon1.5.1/components/*.xpt plus all ./K-Meleon1.5.1/*.dll with files from e.g. Fred's GRE update for older K-Meleons.


After that You delete ./K-Meleon1.5.1/components/compreg.dat and ./K-Meleon1.5.1/components/xpti.dat.

I did it & got: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.8.1.19) Gecko/20081204 K-Meleon/1.5.2. :cool:

Actually I also had to edit the pref("general.useragent.vendorSub", "1.5.2");
in ./K_Meleon/defaults/pref/kmeleon.js

I too never used it (FF anti-phising), but I do use FF 2.xxxx as my backup browser. Perhaps I should switch to Seamonkey for that job.

P.S. Me too. Fred's update showed up so fast, I had to blink to make sure it was the right one! The Seamonkey download is huge and as the posts here indicate, the old method of updating KM using SM is problematic now.

For me download Seamonkey 1.1.14 zip file fron Semonkey website download estimate 10 minuts: Download Seamonkey 1.1.14 in zip file (11 Mb).

After udate K-Meleon files manually with Seamonkey files.

No, it works as it always used to work ( provided You make sure to use chrome.dll and chrome.xpt that belongs to the K-Meleon You want to update. There are three versions or so and they determine what chrome You can use without crash).
