How the heck do I disable the backspace
from taking me back a page on the web?

(I have read one solution for this, and
it did not fix it for me.)

Go to \K-Meleon\defaults\settings folder open accel.cfg file with a text editor, notepad for example.
Search this line code:

VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK

Add a # character at begin of line (to comment this code line) to see it like this line:

#VK_BACK = ID_NAV_BACK

Save changes in file and restart K-Meleon.
