Will this extension work in KM? If not, is there anything similar available or in the works?

1.) No idea whether it will work for anything but Firefox but I doubt it will.

2.a) No, unless You do it. tongue sticking out smiley
2.b) The last word has the experiment said the chemist and blew up the laboratory.
I packed the extension in a form that makes it potentially usable for K-Meleon.
Unpack and place the files for a test into the corresponding K-Meleon folders.
If it works ok - if not see below.

3.) Wait for the final fix in GRE

While this works well for Firefox, a final fix for all Mozilla applications will require changes to nsDocShell and/or PresShell code.

4.) Until the fix?

Toggling: browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl may help for secure pages.
This will cache e.g. bank sessions - so always clear browser cache if You toggle it.

p.s. maybe You can also try to get the JavaScript that is in ./restorescrollposition.jar/content/browser.xul to work via Grease Meleon?

I think it works only when a firefox browser.xul is present.
But it is always worth a try.

Thanks Guenter, for the quick response and fix, the ext appears to be working for the few sites that I've visited. Thanks again.

I need to make sure that I understand how to use your zip file. I extracted to an empty folder and it made two folders called chrome and defaults. Do I now copy the contents of each folder to the KM folder of the same name?

Much to my surprise. :O

Maybe go and thank the PPL that made the extension?

This is always the basic system, even when You unpack (or install into FF extensions folder and then scavenge) an original Firefox extension and hack it for K-Meleon's use. Some FF extensions have no identical names and You just look what and where You find similar items in K-Meleon folder, pack them into a jar (Like i did for Restore Scroll Position), edit, rename and relocate a manifest, rename Preferences to Pref folder, or whatever.

Thanks so much for the fix. I finally found some time to copy the files from your zip. Everything worked and I think the position is being held correctly now.

All that remains is to put the xpi and zip in a folder I won't forget and write up what to do. This seems to be a perfect training example for how to attempt to make a FF ext work in KM.
