I have uploaded a new updated unofficial no-Xul version :
K-Meleon-NX-18122 .
This is a simplified version of K-Meleon 1.x ,
usable in Linux together with wine , or also in Windows,
updated to Mozilla 1.8.1.22 using Gecko/20090605,
from Seamonkey 1.1.17.
Look and feel are similar to the earlier 0.9 versions.
The NX No-chrome concept is used here. Thanks to Hao Jiang and Dorian.
The browser is very fast, because Xul is not used.
Note :
This version works only if you have the files msvcp71.dll
and msvcr71.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon folder.
If you want to use Internet Explorer Favorites, mfc71.dll
would also be necessary.
If you need these dll's, look for them in the internet .
If necessary in Linux, copy the files manually to the K-Meleon main folder.
Note : Flashblock, Aggreg8 and other extensions are not included in this
no-chrome version, and cannot be installed, because extensions need Xul.
Autocomplete now included.
Ad-blocking by userContent.css and hostperm.1 .
Many useful search engines have been added.
The profiles folder will be created inside the K-Meleon main folder by default.
If, when in Linux, you want this folder inside the wine configuration directory
because of property rights problems, rename the file profile.ini
inside the K-Meleon main folder to for example profile.ini-renamed
before the first start.
A javascript button has been included. After changing permissions
for javascript, reload the page.
History must be deleted manually.

I have uploaded a zip file K-Meleon-NX-18122-Vista.zip
which includes a file compreg.dat in the folder components
to make the version usable in Vista, if compreg.dat cannot
be created correctly when the browser is started in Vista,
or possibly also in other systems for some reasons.

Are you tried to use -norestrict parameter in command line at start K-Meleon?

I am on Linux now, but do not think that the
parameter would help, because my NX variations
are not built on 1.5 but on 1.0, and the browser
was not startable in Vista, not even as administrator.
compreg.dat was not created correctly, I think that
this problem came with the Vista service pack.
As this NX version does not support any extensions,
I think, that adding a correct compreg.dat does help,
at least it works for me here.
I have uploaded a zip file containing it, at the address
mentioned.
If internet access is refused, starting the browser
once as an administrator should give internet access
for simple users too.

Fred, can you make a non-XUL version based on 1.5.x, so a fast portable version is possible based on that.

OK, I have configured a NX version of KM-Linux-1.5.3-18122
with no Xul, and uploaded it.
The advantage compared with the normal K-Meleon-NX-18122
lies in the fact, that real tabs are usable here.
A little disadvantage is, that the Preference Panel
is not present, because it uses Xul.
Some changes of the default set can be made from the menu bar,
others can only be done editing the configuration files in
the profile. No big problem for advanced users.
