hi tried making yahoo my homepage but nothing happens any advice apart from that k-meleon seems to run as fast as google chrome which i also use thanks paul
I had no problem to do that.
copy http://www.yahoo.com/
F2 > Browsing > Home Page > Paste http://www.yahoo.com/ set check to Load Home page and close
Make sure that You have writing privileges in the Profiles directory - only that can hinder You permanentely to set HP to Yahoo.

Also right click in Home button in toolbar and select "Make this page your Home Page" or same option in menu View -> Home.
If you like do your Home Page your start page go to Preferences (F2) -> Browsing - > At startup, and select the option "Load home page".
