@kmeleon 74Beta

Thanks for the beta version : a lot of improvements I really appreciate. Up to now only two questions :

* I see that in preferences (F2) - finding websites it is impossible to add search engines : is that the case with everyone?

* Another question : is keyword autosearch supposed to work?

Thx

Mala

Firefox Passwords can be imported into K-Meleon 74Beta, 74d, and 74d+1.

To import the Firefox Passwords, You have to copy the twp files from the Firefox Profile into K-Meleon 74Beta, 74d, or 74db+1 Profile.

The names of those two files are:

key3.db
signons.sqlite

p.s. We maybe use other browsers as k-m substitute.
But not as the real browser of choice.

Or better as shell for HTML engines K-m is prime and rules / is the state of the art.

K-Meleon 74Beta can not open links in New Tabs, Background Tabs, New Windows, and Background Windows when I right click on a link.

It needs a macro to allow us to Open in New Tab, New Window, Background Tab, and Background Window on right clicking links or frames.

True, and toolbars are a bit unpredictable. All this will be fixed in due course. The true breakthrough is making kmeleon work with new gre builds. Congrats Dorian, and thanks!

K-Meleon was my choice for secondary and portable browser for more than five years. I was bitterly disappointed when it was no longer updated after 1.54.

I switched to QtWeb (based on Webkit, now v3.8.5) which is more modern and contains many features in Firefox, chrome, Opera, Safari or ie (e.g. autocomplete URLs). But it's agonizingly slow to load or respond sometimes, and it can't handle java. It's also far more crash-prone than K-Meleon 0.9, never mind 1.54.

I use K-Meleon 1.54 now only as a quick view browser because it's small, loads fast, and I can view sites containing flash, java and other web technologies. It's still quicker and more reliable than most popular bloatware. QtWeb is too limiting and annoying, so if K-Meleon is resurrected and modernized, I'll be ecstatic.

1.54 is really long since outdated, but it was updated years ago already to 1.6 with various beta versions, which produce a lot less display errors. Why do you still stick with the oldest version of all?? Yeah I know the download page still calls it "stable", but due to the stone age engine it has in fact the most bugs these days, not the least.

The last KM1.6 beta version is 2.6, only posted in the forum, the engine may be outdated too but by far not as much as 1.54, and all around it's a pretty stable version for everyday use. Download is here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1522294/K-Meleon1.6.0_Beta2dot6_en-US.7z

And the most recent development version is currently KM74beta3.1, based on the same engine as FF24 or 25, posted just a few days ago by main developer Dorian here

1.6beta2 was stable and IMHO ready for rollout but not continued because desga2 who wanted to finish it ran out of time. There were problems that had nothing to do with the version.

The version 1.6 has a Chinese simplified locale offered in Forum by Chanson Yu.

Just in case You prefer that to English.

74betaN is also mostly stable already. German, French and Chinese simpliified are almost ready for use.

Where is the zipped version? There is no link in the forum or anywhere in the SF file listings.

I don't install browsers. I put them where I want and create my own links, and I especially want them to be portable.

The official development versions by Dorian are in this thread.
But currently the installers are tested.

Unpack the exe with 7z and copy the two main folders into one if You do not want to use the installer.

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?8,127127

Dorian does core - naruman works on chrome and extensions.
You have to follow their posts with updates.
But I am afraid there is a lot of noise in the tread.

A compilation by adodupan is in this thread.

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?2,126206

IMHO also good if you want to use an en-US only version - which i do not want.

A version with core by Dorian and Lua Macros dll is offered by Hao.

I just found this new Kmel beta at BetaNews Forum. I installed it & am using now, even as I type this post.

EXCELLENT!!! Stable. Really really really fast. I love it.

I posted news of this beta at the Wilders Forum HERE.

I have protected this browser with MBAE, as I do for my 2 other browsers as well (Firefox, Slimboat).

P.S. Where's the button for logging into this forum?

Still using the older 1.5.4 version. It's the last version that runs on my computer. Mostly I use it to watch YouTube since it takes less memory than Opera and so runs smoother. Lately though YT broke things by putting in a floating search bar at the top which (since it's not positoned/sized correctly) causes a strip at the top of the video to be black. The height of the black strip is the same as the overflow of the floating search bar.

Some day you'll have to give in and try kernel-ex too winking smiley
No black strips here with kernelex and KM1.6beta26 smiling smiley

Until then try if some special css blocks might help, but requires some skills...
or perhaps play the videos finished and then open them from windows temp cache again with a standalone player...
or manually change the adress each time from "youtube.com/watch?v=xy" to "youtube.com/watch/v/xy"

From my own experience of the last 10 months approx. I can only support this statement of siria. The first time I tried that 1.5 too but have seen the problems very soon. KernelEx works very fine for KM 1.6 and 1.7

My recommendements:
- Try also 1.7 or even Twin (betas both)
- If you can get somewhere cheap or even free RAM modules for your old PC upgrade it as large as possible. I think it must go at least up to 512 MB.

As I remember that time I tried to play and save .flv videos (I don't do it today more because I hate Flash - is and was allways malware in my eyes - such I rather refuse to watch all the flash videos) it's necessary to move/copy them away from the temp cache as possible immediately before the playing is finished. Because they will be often automatically deleted there after playing. But if you make it too soon you get possible only an incomplete video file. Some problem is at flash streaming. Than you can find only a small .flv file which is useless alone. This case it's necessary to use a special ripping tool.

There we have different experiences. I'm using the hexed Flash9 plugin and this works perfectly at least for youtube videos, which I watch nearly exclusively. No need to stop them before the end, always play them out fully. After the end, the cached file-size still shows zero, until I close the video page or kill it's flash objects. Then the full size is available in the cache and yes, then I usually move them out of it too.
Videos on other sites I rarely even try, and only some of them survive in the cache anyway. Although, my impression was always they don't even show up there at all, and if so, stopping in the middle doesn't help a thing?
On the other hand I tried a few other yt "tools" too, but in the long run the hexedplugin way always felt the easiest and most robust, and after awhile those other ways started failing and I also kept forgetting how they work ;-) And I hate using monster scripts from external sites each time, it's just an additional malware risk.
Which tool do you use??

I don't use any one. Always as I looked for solutions it was in final effect such complicated until I had no time more to bring it finished. There are solutions for allmost all these things anyway but unfortunately I must set my priorities on other places as to look for them consequently.

People change still as their webs etc. as things around in the "real" world. Too much of it doesn't work correctly, perheaps better to say directly it works really bad, too much of people making these changes don't (want to) see all the consequences of their doing. Thats why it's very time intensive for me to look that my essential things go on to work, as around the computer as in the other life. Additionally the times I could push many things besides to make them later, as people usually do, are over for me - that »later« is now. Some of that besides moved things solve themselves during the time, indeed but at many of the rest I'm now confrontated with that what we in german say "aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben".sad smiley

The necessarity to handle this on one side good but on the other side also non finished browser doesn't make it easier, too.

I tried it a little while ago. Later I uninstalled it, and started to use Maxthon instead because I don't liked it. Today, I'm using both Maxthon and K-meleon on my desktop computer.
