If the extension isn't in the list, Edit > Edit Mimetypes > add
application/pdf
pdf
Open
Save, and if needed retrun in File Types
A+
Thanks, JujuLand. I edited the Mimetypes to add the settings as you advised, and then I was able to see the extension in the list (F2 | Browsing | File Handling | By Type). Shows as:
Extension -- File Type -- Action
PDF -- pdf -- Save to Disk
=> However, it did not help. Tried these two activities.
a) did a google search for a pdf file, and clicked on one of the results -- browser crashed (twice). On the third attempt, the browser became non-responsive (the browser did not crash, but no link would work now). Either way, the pdf did not get saved.
b) logged into my account on my telephone provider website:
clicked on the link for e-bill [ javascript:showBill(); ], which opened up a new window with this address (https://service.xxxxxxxx.xxx/PS/14/english/postForEBPPViewBill.jsp?bd=20091001&WT.svl=MAViewBill) in the url bar, however nothing happened. The browser became unresponsive after this. Tried this multiple times with the same result.
=> Then went back into my "Preferences" and changed the Action for pdfs:
Extension -- File Type -- Action
PDF -- pdf -- Open with Adobe Reader 7.0
Tried again both the activities mentioned above, and this time saw the pdf files download to a C:\...\Temp folder and then open in standalone acrobat reader -- which is good, but I am still not able to do what I wanted to i.e. save the pdf file to a specified location, instead of having it open up automatically.
Am I doing anything wrong?
