In a nutshell.

1.5.4 RC is a maintenance release with some new features.
All is supposed to work. Supports Win98-Win7.
The GRE (1.8.x) version does not support the newest HTML features and has no JavaScript Just In Time compiler (JS is slower).

I could continue to live with 1.5.x - if webpages were not phasing out support for the GRE 1.8. Google is mentioned here in Forum. Look for pages that drop Firefox 2.x or SeaMonkey 1.x support, these 2 also use GRE 1.8.

1.6 Alpha is a development version.
Not all works. Will only support Win2000-Win7.
The GRE (1.9.x) is what is needed for the future. It will have a new JS engine.

Its better to focus on 1.6 from now only as its faster , and any bugs will
be worked out sooner or later <grin>
