Hi, rock22,

so you haven't added any since the last time? Or, you have, but didn't dare to ask how to get your newer bookmarks back?
If you have -

  • find out if they are activated: Hit F2, -> K-Meleon Plugins: Netscape Bookmarks ticked?
  • find out where the bookmarks.html file with the latest timestamp is
    (you can do a system wide search for that, if you like. Be sure to set your
    Explorer View for the search results to "Details", or search for files only
    which have been modified since "last date I added a bookmark")
  • Enter the path to that file in the appropriate fields in F2 -> K-M Plugins
    -> Netscape Bookmarks tabs

If you really want a new import from FiFo Version 3.*: You'll have to export them from FiFo first, or use an external tool, to convert the sqlite-type bookmarks to a bookmarks.html - file.

A quick search for that found this:
Transmute Standard (free)

The information in this
thread about disrupted's bookmarks importer extension might be interesting, too.

Cheers

We do need even more information:

What K-M version?

What occured, K-M-related, between having them and losing them?
(like SystemCrash (Bluescreen), upgrading, trying to make portable, trying to
use IE or Opera favs? Editing menu.cfg?)

Profile in UserAppData or in K-M -> Profiles?

Are you dead sure you have one profile only? (Sytem wide search for
"profiles.ini". Mind the "s", and if there is only one "profiles.ini", check its
contents - really only one profile mentioned in there?

What skin do you use? Made any changes to its toolbars.cfg?
Is there a main menu Item "bookmarks"?
What do you see when you click it?
Is there a toolbar icon for it? What does its RightClick menu show?

I strongly assume this is a profile related issue.

PS: Please do tell us how many "bookmarks.html" files your
search (mentioned in my first post) found

Cheers

i think rock is using ff 3.x.x and that uses sqlite..the bookmarks.html file linked is static and not the actual bookmarks used/appearing in firefox.

rock, if it's ff 3; you 'll need to export your bookmarks from sqlite format to html format before kmeleon can use them

Hi, disrupted,
I thought we might help him re-activating the bookmarks.html he used before:

it's probably in another profile folder somewhere..rock try doing a filesearch for bookmarks.html and open each one you find in browser normally like a regular html page until you find the one that looks like your lost bookmarks..it will appear as links in a page, then copy that bookmarks.html to your profile folder and replace the existing one and restart kmeleon.

hopefully that will help get them back but i'm not really the bookmarks guru..gunter and desga can offer better advice.

kmeleon has spoilt us with different bookmarking systems..some use bookmarks, jamesd uses favourites and some even use external gul like me and ndebord..choices choices grinning smiley

You more likely than not have more than one - that is the second reason why
I asked you to do a search.

Still have the old ones in Firefox? Don't delete or uninstall.

Check the size of the known bookmarks.html (rightClick file -> properties). If it
is just around 3 kB, it may not be the one you exported anymore.

IF your mainMenu -> bookmarks shows ANY items, (mainly K-M related),
those come from a SECOND bookmarks.html file that came out-of-the-KM-box.
Find it, replace it with a copy of the real one (that one on your desktop, or
one newly exported from FiFo) and you should be done.

Keep the one on the desktop as a backup, refresh from time to
time by copying from your profile.

And please DO supply at least some of the information we asked for if this
does not work and you need more help.

I still think they are probably not yet exported to Firefox-2 format, or otherwise it would work, if the path is correct :cool:

Hi, Siria,

I understood he "had done it once", and I took that as meaning, he had done
it successfully, giving him the collection of bookmarks he had had in Firefox.

As he says he has a "bookmarks.html" file on his desktop, where he put it.

I do assume this is a valid Netscape Bookmarks file.

I think it is up to him to find out whether this is
  1. the wrong file in the right path
  2. the right file in the wrong path, or
  3. both wrong.

It's not easy to help when significant info is lacking.

@ rock22: you do know how to do a system wide search, do you? If not, please
ask - as an Xtra we even might tell you how to post a meaningful screenshot!

But, of course, you could open Firefox, go to
-> Bookmarks
-> Organize Bookmarks
-> Import & Backup
and export your old bookmarks to a bookmarks.html. (My translations of
german menu items)

Be sure your K-Meleon is NOT running when you replace the culprit, whereever
it may be stored. This method, though, does not include the bookmarks you
added from K-Meleon.

Cheers
