I must unfortunately tell you that an update
of KM-1.5.4 to eliminate security problems is
not possible anymore.
The latest supported Gecko 1.8 has the number
1.8.1.24, which corresponds to the latest
official update of KM-1.5.4 on the download
page from March 5th 2010.
Mozilla now only supports Gecko 1.9.1 and
1.9.2 (and the newer betas).
I presume that you use Windows 98, which
does normally not support these newer Geckos.
There have been forum threads about using
Kernelex with Windows 98, to avoid the problem,
but I have no personal experiences with that.
Using Gecko 1.8.1.24 could become a growing
security risk, at least in Windows, may be
less in Linux with the wine emulator.
Sorry to know no satisfying solution.

Fred

1.) There might be potential security risks for 1.5.4's GRE (MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH) - they are however not actively searched by security advisers and hackers. K-Meleon is the only project that still uses that branch. & K-Meleon has a too small market share to make it worthwhile to search potential vulnerabilities.

Some PPL that had pledged commercial support have been AFAIK feeding some more fixes into the branch so there is one potential newer GRE for 1.5.4 (GRE 1.8.1.25pre) but You have to compile it Yourself. That is hard to do - the download/pull of sources for MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH is partially broken and stops before all is downloaded. I do not know how to fix.
You can possibly look for a nightly?

2.) With XP You might consider to help testing 1.6.beta2. It is better for the community. Slightly faster JavaScript execution. Better HTML5 support. Also it includes a newer GRE 1.9.x that has better potential security. smiling smiley

1.6.beta2 can use the same Profile as 1.5.4. If You want native non English menus? You can get most menus to Your native language (except preferences, error console = mostly Chrome items) if You copy the folders Locales and dictionaries from 1.5.4 to 1.6beta2.

Drawbacks. Extensions are not ported yet. Some work out of the box but some do not. Must haves such as spellchecker only partly work. sad smiley

But Adblock don't work with 1.6b2 anymore, right?

Absolut, right.

Next best is the NoScript upload of jk in the thread about NoScript.

I find NoScript hard to configure. Functions are ok. For the rest we have to wait till final and that maybe some K-Meleon user of adblock gives Wladimir Palant a hand.

Adblock and noscript very different things. Policies Manager completely replace
that thing.

Yes... But this is no fact and waiting maybe to long, because
that user with a hand don't know too, what kind of engine 1.6 or 1.7.

1.) Thx for info. I do not use any of the 3 - on a regular base. On the pages I use often I do not need any protection & for the rest I toggle off JavaScript from Privacy Bar - when I think the page deserves it.

2.) Read Alex.Tarantul's post. I hope that the work invested works for both. desga2's fixes for chrome 1.6engine mostly worked for 1.7engine. But I do not see any user qualified enough to assist W. Palant. While the K-Meleon devs and W. Palant have limited time.

nss3.dll
nssdbm3.dll
nssutil3.dll
softokn3.dll
smime3.dll
(ver. 3.12.8.0) (km ver. 3.12.3.0)

It is ok Upd this files?
