^. I can't seem to close tabs without pressing the x at the top right but that would require me to restart the browser.

Several way are available.

You can double-click on the tab.

You can right-click on the tab and pick close tab from the menu.

There should be some buttons which look like stacked pages. One has empty pages and one has an "X" on the pages. Clicking the one with the "X" closes the tab with focus.

There is even a method to put an "x" on the tab itself. I don't use that one because you need icons on for it work. I don't use the icons.
