I have use kmeleon for many years, recently I encounter a problem strange!
When I presse win+r and input url like "http://www.google.fr/search?q=ä½ &ie=gb2312&oe=gb2312", there will be allways an error codes in kmeleon. It become
"http://www.google.fr/search?q=?&ie=gb2312&oe=gb2312"; in the adressebar . Furtheurmore, if I input the url http://www.google.fr/search?q=ä½ &ie=gb2312&oe=gb2312 directely in kmeleon, and press "GO", nothing wrong will happen. When it is not a non-english character in the url, it will not error.
Anyone has encouter problem like me?

I think that is a normal behavior, when you pass special characters from one to other apps. It happens too with just the clipboard.

Happens also with Opera, for example, if you do the same (remember to put the urls between quotes if you try).

But I'm in Windows 2000, that hasn't full UTF support, and maybe for this kind of things newers OSs work better.

Does the same every browser with your configuration?

I have the same problem. For example when replying to email using my webmail, all swedish characters gets displayed incorrectly. Search results using Ixquick display the same error, while Google displays the characters correctly.

ö becomes ö

And my i10n-problem is that KM doesn't handle links like this, that combain latin base & cyrillic part as anchor:

KM converts it to UTF in URLbar

but user isn't transferred to the anchor placement on page.

As I found out, it's the whole Gecko problem as newest FF behaves the same way.

One amusing thing is that KM handles pure cyrillic links (e.g. http://президент.рф/ ) properly.

Or, in other words, is established that the translation that browsers do for non-ascii character in domains, can be resolved as are already registered an routed on the root DNSs servers of internet, so...

I don't think is strange or abnormal behavior. Indeed, the HTML must be coded correctly, so if someone mapped an URL with a name in non-ascii characters... is not a good webmaster. I don't know what W3C has to say here, but I think non-ascii characters are not implemented in HTML, just for these reasons

But, going about K-meleon, why it doesn't show in cyrillic the URL mapping?, I don't know, I find normal bahavior. Or better for Chrome.

I also just noticed that only email that was sent from an iPhone does the non-ascii characters incorrectly. Email from Hotmail and gmail doesn't have the problem.
Will send Ixquick an email ;-)
