I'am going crazy! I thought that I understood K-Meleons's bookmarks concept and that everything is working fine, but I was wrong ...

I am using the Netscape Bookmarks option, with bookmarks.html in profile folder. The bookmarks file was originally created from my old browser, and I edited it in K-Meleon Bookmark editor. 'All Bookmarks' is set as Toolbar Folder (and as New Bookmarks Folder) and is displayed correctly as toolbar. All bookmarks from toolbar and its subfolders are working fine.

However, if I add a new bookmark, this is displayed on the toolbar, but isn't working. Bookmarks.html shows that all new bookmarks are stored not with the http URL, but with 'file:///' following by the path of the profile folder.

What am I doing wrong???

Part 2:

Even with a completely fresh installation the same experience. All settings default, only activated toolbars Bookmarks and Menu. A new bookmar is displayed on the Bookmarks toolbar and in the Bookmarks Edit window, where immediately (in the same session) can be seen under Properties that the URL field is empty.

It was a bug, but think Dorian got it finally fixed with one of the latest RC2 incremental "updates". Am not quite current which and where the latest are found, somewhere shattered all across the above thread pages...

Hm ... I am using 74.0 ... ??!!

Then you'll need to go to the latest 75 RC2 update 5 from the announcements forum thread.

I don't remember of that problem in 74 but was a year ago.

You can, anyway, try the bookmarks.dll plugin file from the latest 75 version update. It should be safe to use it without any trouble.

Just in case, make a backup of your profile first to preserve a bookmarks.html backup.

Extract it from the kplugins folder and extract to 74 corresponding folder:

I tried this, but then no bookmarks adding is possible at all.

I think, I should switch to 75 ...??!!

I'm reporting this bug every time KM updates! ;-) But I'm not sure about KM75RC2u5 as I haven't made clean test for this assembly.

The funny thing is, just minutes ago I found a similar prob with my own "Favorites" macro Claims "file not found" although all looks fine, then turns out it just can't handle semicolons ";" in the fav names. Now just curious, although those are completely different systems: Did you look inside your bookmarks html with a text editor, to see the real links inside? If yes, do the wrong ones also have special characters in the path?

@all: does it work when using a subfolder as default target?
Have a very dim memory that Dorian mentioned something about needing a subfolder, but may well remember this wrong or perhaps it was about another subject...

As Dorian sometimes says (it drives me crazy ): works for me.

But let's go deep, how do you add the bookmarks? Adding form context menu and from the Bookmarks menu, works for me without problems.

The "only" difference in my case is that I set the preference to false as I don't like that menu item in bookmarks, but even, I tested, and it worked.

@Siria, at least in my case, doesn't matter if you add to the root folder, to the toolbar folder, to a folder, to the default folder, with context menu, without it, with shortcut, etc, etc. :-?

Might be locales as with the crash in zoom recently discovered? I don't use locales, my install is english.


Note @Zvonki: updates must be added one by one, not the latest, because some don't include the previous. They aren't cumulative.

Zvonko and rodocop,I can confirm this bug,both in KM74 and KM75!Really annoying!
I'm using the bookmarks.dll from 1.6.0 in KM74,just could save the URL successfully!

Dorian, at least with KM 75 this dll is not usable at all: Deleting bookmarks in Bookmarks > Edit seems to work, but the bookmarks are not removed from toolbar ...

UPDATE/EDIT:
Sorry, this was because of the old bookmarks.dll left in kplugins (renamed to bookmarsOLD.dll). After removing it and leaving only your new bookmarks.dll in kplugins, the problem seems to be resolved, new bookmarks can be added.

I will continue my test ...

But what amazes me is how it is possible that a problem with adding new bookmarks was not reported massively before.

Could it be that this problem occurs only in specific circumstances?

It WAS reported by me every time new build was published ;-)

But most of users here (I think so) do unpack new builds over old installations, where the old non-empty bookmarks.html is present. There were no glitches with such already filled bookmark-files.

Only with new ones.
