How to Get KM to Load Flash

Is there a trick to getting Flash to work in KM 1.6 Beta 2 (on XP)?

I had Flash working in versions prior to 1.5.4 (as I recall).

My Flash updates other Mozilla flavor browsers I use fine; but not KM.

E:\Program Files\K-Meleon\plugins\NPSWF32_11_7_700_202.dll

Make sure that the plugin is the same version as the one You have installed in Windows/system32/macromed/flash. Else it can interfere and cause errors on some newer systems. XP SP3 or newer.

BTW: K-Meleon1.6 can use the plugin installed in that location.

File name: F:\OS2\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_7_700_202.dll
Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700

And other plugins installed system wide.

File name: E:\Programme\Nitro\Reader 3\npnitromozilla.dll
Nitro PDF plugin for Firefox and Chrome

The place You mention is best utilized to give specific plugins the preference over others also installed on the system that can handle the same file/mime type.

OK, thanks.

My problem probably lies with the lack of SP3+, which I don't have installed, since the Flash dll in the KM plugins folder is a copy the Flash dll from the common Flash install location.

Rename the file in kplugins to NPSWF32.DLL.

Maybe install the English SP3 that can be downloaded at Winfuture board

http://winfuture.de/downloadvorschalt,2121.html

They also have a pack that lets You install all needed updates since then.

http://winfuture.de/downloadvorschalt,2136.html

They also have an ISO builder the integrates the SPs into installer CD ISOs.

http://winfuture.de/XPIsoBuilder available/support in English, French & German.

Else You can do such a similar job with Nlite.

http://www.nliteos.com/

Unwanted items like the Windows Security Center can be easily deactivated with XP Antispy if You did not change them when creating the Installer CD ISO.

At JamesD thax for the trick. I did not know that one. smiling smiley

Sorry, folks...

Why to have 2 np plugins at all? KM uses any of two - one in system folder or one in KM's own.
I think 'internal' npswf may be useful for portable version while any instance which is permanently in place on the hdd (no matter installed into system or portable like my Twin) works beautiful with system-wide installed flash.

Couldn't you open my eyes on this problem? grinning smiley

My interest goes further or better into another direction than the original question. Maybe I am wrong or too optimistic but I see a broadened opportunity.

A plugin in ./K-Meleon/plugins/ forces the browser to use this plugin and not another plugin in another location that also can handle the same MimeType!

Knowing how to deploy the flash plugin of Your choice "JamesD stile" gives You a chance to force to work a custom made flash plugin in specific purpose made K-Meleon "stand alone" install.

You just start each plugin flavor with a different K-Meleon install.

HDD space costs nothing today.

So You can create purpose dedicated installs of flash & KM easy and cheap.

My c:/program files/Purpose KM install/K-Meleon.exe... -new (with flash pluginX) (or maybe not -new if You want to use the same profile and prefer to shut down an install / after all K-Meleon.exe is one of the fastest starting browsers).

p.s. If another K-M still uses the profile nothing more than a simple error prevents usage.

The only permanently installed flash on my system is Internet Explorer's version. I only use the npswf32.dll for all my other browsers, including KM, Fx, SM and SlimBoat (WebKit). Once I install the non-IE Flash, I copy out the npswf32.dll file somewhere and then uninstall Flash using its uninstall executable. As all these particular browsers can use the DLL when properly positioned in their plugin sub-folders, I can mix and match versions as needed.
