File Downloading questions and wishes ... smiling smiley

Problem/situation: downloading files ...

Besides KM I still use a very old download manager together with a very old browser (both only XP, not Vista (and not https) capable): they not only keep the file creation date from the server when downloading, but also create a separate file (descript.ion) with the raw url-list of the downloaded files (and the referrer).

Now question (and suggestion to implement if not yed available): how to set downlodas so that a file creation date is taken from the server (from the original file on the server). It does not make much sense to have the "creation/change" date to the point in time of downloading; specially when you download the file several times (in different PCs) and then put all onto the own "install server". The files are the same, but as of the different creation date they are not treated as the same. This causes unnecessary work for clarifying ...

Also a separate file with the url list of the downloaded files would be nice.

Btw.: "add all urls to download them" would also be something nice; I often use EageGet, but it does not always work as expected.

And if we are at this topic: it would also be nice (when downloading several files) to not have several separate "windows" (that have to be closed) but rather a list of all in one single window (as Maxthon does).

So most important question is: how to download a file and keep the change/creation date from the server?

I know what you mean, but Mozilla says: RESOLVED - WONTFIX

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178506

About multiple downloads, maybe there is some pref to hide the download window somewhere and just go to about:downloads to see what is being downloaded, but in K-meleon this is a very basic display compared to Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/preserve-download-modification/?src=dp-dl-othersby

It's a Firefox extension which I didn't test.
It might not work with K-Meleon.
In case it doesn't maybe more knowledgeable users than me can help with some advise.

Every K-Meleon I've ever had has a download screenlet:

Note the checkbox at bottom left. This can also be set in F2 Preferences:

I can't make any suggestions as to your main request, as it goes against my core software beliefs: "The function, the whole function, and nothing but the function." While I can accommodate a download function in a browser, it makes more sense (to me) to employ a download manager built especially for the job, and which I would expect to have advanced features like auto-resume as well as the other features you mentioned. My current favourite is DLExpert, very ancient--v0.99 (20-12-2001)--but incredibly fast on *DSL, originally designed as an IE Helper Object. And about as common these days as Unobtainium©.
