If I start typing in the URL window or use the pulldown, I can't right arrow to select the URL where I can edit it before submitting it. This is how it's done in Firefox. Is there another wauy in K-Meleon?

You're probably looking for autofill.

Go to about:config.
Search for "autofill" and toggle "browser.urlbar.autoFill" to true

Edit: It only works with autocomplete, not with the pulldown

Works for me, in 1.6 and 75.0 (75.1 not yet installed):
cursor in urlbar, arrow down, choose an addy, arrow right -> cursor moves in urlbar
