K-Meleon and Netflix

I note that K-Meleon and Netflix are not compatible. Users of K-Meleon who wish to watch Netflix, will have to switch to another browser. Existing installations of Silverlight are not recognized by K-Meleon.

No one around who knows a bit more as clueless me??
Cannot test it myself, and no idea if it runs at all in KM, just googled around a bit:
Netflix seems infamous for intentionally closing the door at smaller browsers. The usual workaround for such cases: try sending such stubborn sites a fake _useragent_ string (browser+system info), on which website servers can decide which page content they send you. Changing UA doesn't help always, but worth trying.

Tip from here https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?t=15452
and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31699881-Pale-Moon-NetFlix-My-List-User-Agent-Fix
Netflix was reported working in Palemoon with this fake useragent string in about:config
general.useragent.override = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; rv:45.9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.9

If doesn't help, someone else succeeded after additionally deleting old cookies and cache.

If doesn't help, would try brandnew KM-dev version, KM-Goanna 20180408 from here:
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,143253

Current KM-Goanna versions are portable, with own profiles inside their program folder, that means they doesn't touch your older KM-versions if you unzip the new one into another folder. Portable KM-versions can run fully independant. The only prob is that you may have to struggle with write permissions restricted by modern Windows.
For videos it's recommended to also install one of the 3 LAV decoders in KM-Goanna, from same post. Unzip them into the KM root folder.
Before going to Netflix, fake the useragent too of course.

USERAGENTS HowTo:
Perhaps you know how to change this pref, but most people not.
There are several methods. Manually:
Open page about:config and look for this pref:
general.useragent.override
By default it doesn't exist yet. If necessary right-click in the page and create it as "string" type. Value as above (for FF45.9)

(If someone is using an older version of KM-Pro: can not work this way, because a site-switcher with 1 fix global UA is hardcoded in it. To use different global UAs, the site-switcher extension in Pro must first be disabled. Possible by setting the useragent.Count pref to 0 (zero) in about:config)

Back to Netflix: if this UA really helps (?), and if you're using KM-Goanna, you can get this UA switch automatically whenever you visit Netflix. If you add 3 more prefs with this same value:
general.useragent.override.netflix.com = Mozilla...
general.useragent.override.netflximg.net = Mozilla...
general.useragent.override.nflxext.com = Mozilla...
(domains from here: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?t=14533 )

If you want a macro for handling useragent switching by a menu, I'd recommand useragents2018:
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?9,143898
This macro can handle all options available in KM-Goanna, incl. Gecko/FF compatibility options, and automatic agent-switching by site (Automatic: Add Site...)
2 files to download, the 7z from first post (into KM root folder) and the js-list from third post (put into ../K-Meleon/browser/defaults/preferences)

I have experienced no problem with Silverlight plugin. Both K-Meleon 76RC2 and KMGoanna (77) latest version works really fine for me. However, IMHO future versions of KMGoanna should be released with LAV filters included and also with fake user agents config for main sites like Netflix and so forth by default, mainly to avoid such annoyances for newest users. smiling smiley

As usual I don't quite understand everything when user agents are discussed. I don't do the Netflix steaming thing ... just get DVDs mailed through the mail every so often.

However, I do have problems with a few other web sites (not many) and I'm always on the look for a new User Agent to try ... maybe it will work for these other sites also ... maybe better than what I am currently using.

I'm always open to experiment but I have a simple question in 'about:config'. What should the setting be for:

general.useragent.site_specific_overrides ... true

after setting up - general.useragent.override with any new User Agent.

It is currently set to 'true' ... should it be left that way (true) or changed to 'false' ?

This User Agent stuff is always interesting but I am never sure about other settings.

thanks ...

IMHO - the less clueless people will mess with about:config, the better. For personal changes of internal settings I'd advise user.js as first choice.
Besides, in cases of problematic sites like Netflix, only site specific overrides make really sense (as long they work - at least).
In the meanwhile roytam1 has added all such known problematic sites to the internal settings by default. So no interaction from the user's part is needed for now.

Leave it as it is 'true'.
The setting refers to site-specific overrides.

You don't have to mess with useragent overrides in about:config since roytam1 has added all problematic sites to the internal settings by default.
