I use K-Meleon 75.1 under Windows 7.

Yesterday it ran without problem, today the browser does not start anymore.
(nothing visible happens when clicking on k-meleon.exe)


I found out, that it helps, when I rename the profil folder under Users/App/Roaming
Then it creates a new profile folder and starts.
(with all settings lost of course)

When renaming back to the old folder name: same behaviour as before, does not start.


The fault must be somewhere in the profile folder.
Do you have an idea, where? Maybe a specific (caching?) file must be deleted?

If something fails, that browser quits without warning.
Delete chunks of lines in prefs.js and post the one that was causing this for the technical interested.

Hello,

I found out, that the reason was the bookmarks file.

Size was 61 KB, but its content was only zeros (hex 00).

Restoring with bookmarks-backup everything worked fine.


Any idea how this could happen?

Unfinished beta version. I think 75.1 started including icon links in a custom bookmark file format. Try to create bookmarks until it happens or use history to find the old page. Post the link.

Looks like this happens occasionally, and usually has to do with URLs in session and bookmark files, especially in non-latin countries.

This was greatest glitch of 75.x versions - they all (releases) crushed after trying to use non-latin domain URLs like россия.рф etc.

In a later post he wrote this was fixed in KM76.

In much older versions, like my KM1.6, there was a similar prob with non-UTF8 encoding of macro created INI-files, if those were used to store URLs. Guess Dorian fixed that also in one of the later 7x versions.

And in a bugreport for Firefox 52 someone had the very same prob too, and figured out in his case it had to do with some problematic font in last session tabs, he could fix it by allowing
browser.display.use_document_fonts: 0 -> 1
