i'm new to k-meleon and my pc is absolute garbage so the speed in this browser is amazing other then chrome which lags alot, so i went to search for youtube but ended up getting an error saying "this browser is not supported" which is disappointing and so there has to be something the users of k-meleon can do and i need help

K-meleon is perfectly compatible, but YouTube checks for your user agent (how the browsers identifies itself against the server) and as you might have Firefox Compatible mode enabled then is sent something that Youtube doesn't like.

You can just click on the blue no thanks when suggesting to change browser (all will still work) or change the compatible user agent.

The best way is to use this macro so you can change your user agent whenever you want, because I can't remember where exactly is the option available (if available):

Ups, sorry, the above is only for vanilla version I didn't see this is the Goanna version/forum.

Which KM-version? The newest one from here?
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,148500

@JohnHell: useragents2018 macro works with all KM, old and new, incl. Goanna and Pro and the various FF compat-settings (in Pro the count-pref must be set to zero).
Site-specific UAs work in both Goannas out-of-box, in old KM7X-gecko after a little hack in omni.ja

Hi,
KM 75.1 cannot display all YouTube videos. You need to install (Unofficial) KM-Goanna newest version and it is better than Firefox in my experience regarding YouTube videos.
I am using Windows XP SP3 (Triple boot with Win98SE and Windows 7), and the last Firefox version 52.9 esr (for XP) can't load many videos @ YouTube, KM-Goanna is amazing in this regard.

As mentioned, use Goanna test builds. They work reliably on diverse websites and are quite stable.
You can deactivate Flash in the 'Menu' to the right so videos and anims will not load, and reactivate it on a 'per page' basis if needed.

For an elegant way to *not* load tabs while opening them, try e.g. 'UnloadTab' extension:
https://legacycollector.org/firefox-addons/345001/index.html
Set it to 'load only active tab' when starting the browser, 'do not load' new tabs, and 'unload after 1 minute' for inactive tab, will save nerves and resources when two or more pages try to play videos and stuff. Rest is up to you.
I test some addons myself right now and 'unloadtab-0.24.5' did work for me on KM 76.2 with Goanna, so I'm testing the later ones too atm.

To download do 'right click - save as...', bc .xpis will normally be installed with the KM browser.
Or use a Chromium based browser which does not care for .xpi extentions.
Do check for malware first before installing, pls use VirusTotal.com or similar, to stay safe.

In the k-Meleon 'Addons' section (type 'about:addons' in URL bar to go there) choose 'Extensions' on left and click the 'Menu' symbol on top, choose 'install addon from file', done. smiling smiley

not anymore as of February 2020 with the built-in UA strings for K-meleon.
Youtube has made recent changes to their web site last month:
https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/27631724?hl=en

I'll need to edit the UA strings and change the Firefox version to at least 60.0 in order to continue using either Hooktube or Invidious

some invidious sites are still okay for 2022
hooktube site in 2022, no - YT videos fail to load in hooktube regardless of web browser
avoid using hooktube

This is for modern browsers. There are too many "async" and "await" operators, and some other new JS features.

Try using https://invidious.kavin.rocks/ instead.

JP & US specific versions of those are available as well (I'll use the US specific version since I reside in the USA)

those specific JP & US kavin rocks invidious sites are no longer working.

just plain invidious.kavin.rocks site is still good.
as well as many of the invidious instances listed here.

and forget about hooktube.com as that site now redirects to cinemaphile.com (hooktube's dead in 2022 & beyond)
