You really should consider upgrading the RAM. You should be able to fit at least 2GB in there.

Sorry, that's no answer!

I also have notebooks here that I use for writing texts because they have better keyboards than any other newer model; and they do not support more than 512 or 1024 MB RAM, or it is difficult or impossible to get it.

well I'm sorry but you'll have to do better with your response, Voltaire.

my brother once had a very old Mitac brand notebook PC (a 2003 model {MiNote 8080} that used a mobile Intel Pentium M [Banias] 1.4Ghz CPU and a 40gig hard drive) long time ago which had WinXP Home edition that can handle up to 1Gb (1024) of RAM.

so what kind of notebook PCs do you currently have? list the make & model.
I will also ask the OP that SAME question.

edit - use either the built-in MSInfo32.exe or DXDiag.exe tools to gather specs of your notebook PCs

I have several notebooks with Pentium III here; they use PC-133 SODIMMs of max. size of 2x 512 MB – max total RAM of 1024 MB. For quite a while it was not only difficult to get those RAMs – they were also offered for an exorbitant phantasy price. Nowadays you get them again for about 20 bucks each ...

The answer is easy: you should use the latest working build for your system.

New builds of K-Meleon don't show raised RAM or CPU consumption. But the modern sites do.
