Maybe somebody here has an explanation for this behavior.

I am using the mobile hotspot of my smartphone as internet access on my notebook. And I am using a VPN on my notebook. K-Meleon is working fine in this setting.

Now I am testing a new solution where VPN is set up directly on the smartphone. Such a "VPN hotspot" can be used by other devices only when a second app is installed on the smartphone. At the moment I am testing Every Proxy. This app creates a proxy, in my case with IP 192.168.43.1 and port 8080. With these values set for the proxy server in LAN settings on my notebook I am able to browse with Edge and Chrome, but not with K-Meleon. Any idea what could be the reason?

PS: However, also my email client is not working in this constellation...

Obviously you should set these settings on the app-level i.e. directly in K-Meleon
