java jre doesn't

I've just installed k-meleon and re-installed the Sun JRE 1.3.1-01 package, but still get the same results when going to a page at https://mil401k.metlife.com/IBM/

A dialog box titled "Java(tm) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error"
"The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded from <Default\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll"
Any ideas?

TIA,
Rick Zehr

Try using and earlier version of JRE than 1.3.1. I have had luck with 1.3.0_02 which you can download at http://java.sun.com/products/archive/.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled (in sequence):
Navigator browser 6.2 (only)
JRE 1.3.0_05
Hotspot
K-M

It still gives the same error.

Any other ideas?

Is there any way this could be reproduced short of you giving out your login info?

Probably not reproducible elsewhere - I had just hoped someone had seen/solved the issue based on the message. My 1.3.1 Java seems to function fine in Opera 6.0 (not very well in Opera 5.1).

If I change the JVM to be used in the plugin, the detailed text changes in the error message.

This is with NT4/SP6 plus all the maintenance I could find as of last week.

Oh well, I'll check back in for v .7

Regards

Well, I solved the problem by ditching the Sun JRE entirely. It has always been flaky on my NT4 system.

I replaced it with the Microsoft JVM, which works only with IE, but does so much faster than I've ever seen client-side Java work before.

I'll use IE for the one site I need that requires client-side Java.
