"Stand-alone browser"

I would like to distribute K-Meleon on cd -rom as a offline browser
in e-book fashion.
Questions:
1 - Does it have to be installed to work. (ie: Will it run from a cd-rom?)
2 - Does it ride on or require an existing browser, IE or Netscape?
3 - What level of HTML and Java does it support?
(I'd like to use IE type transitions and some low level Java scripts)
I'm making a family history using HTML and can't predict what kind of
browser support end users will have.
Thanks for any encouragement

In addition, K-Meleon does not need any installation of NS or IE to function.

a few things (like the rebar menu) need up-to-date system files, though, that are most commonly supplied with recent IE versions.

The rebar menu can be turned off though.

yep, and as a matter of fact, i seem to recall that the developers mentioning that they were working to reduce some of these dependencies in coming versions.
