How do you suppress new windows from popping up?

I have a habit when browsing of opening multiple new windows from one page (usually it's a newspaper site, and I open new pages as I scan through the headlines).

I open a new window by right-clicking on a link and selecting "Open in New Window".

K-meleon automatically changes focus to those new windows as it is rendering (my guess is when it has established a connection).

(It also automically changes focus as soon as I click "Open in New Window", but I immediately alt-tab back to the original.)

This is annoying because the new windows keep popping out in front of me as I am trying to read the original headline page.

Does anyone know how to stop K-meleon from automatically changing focus?

Thanks,
Dzof

yep, it's annoying, and no, i don't think there's a cure yet... apparently it's a mozilla bug:

Po,

Actually, this bug is supposed to have been fixed. I'm not sure if it was checked in before 0.9.7 Mozilla rolled out the door.

I am using "Open in Background" from right-click (even put that first in my right-click menu) and the focus does not change (tried this several times right now). Or am I missing something? K-Meleon just seems to render one page at a time but I can always read the already open page at the same time...

open-in-background seems to work fine; it's when, for one reason or another, a new non-background window is created, and you then go back to the original window while the new one is loading... then the new one tries to grab focus again (babies are the center of the universe to themselves, ya know...).

Gawd... I feel like an idiot!

I didn't notice 'Open in Background'. Despite the fact that it's right under 'Open in New Window'. I'd like to blame it on the New Year, but I think it's a little late in the year for that... sad smiley

OK, so I'll use that now instead, and things should be fine!
Thanks, guys!

nah... it takes some adapting to adjust to new things... even Good New Things.

sometimes invisibility is the biggest obstacle.

sometimes the invisibility is generated by habit.

at least, i find that to be the case with myself, often. smiling smiley

I would just like to say that "Open in Background" is one of the best features of this browser. It's such a little thing but it is ingenious. That's the thing I miss first when I have to use an other browser and I get totally annoyed by their intruding windows.

Dzof don't mind, you'r not the only one ;o)

Seems as if you are using a similar kind of browsing as I do.
You might want to take a look at
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=2170&t=2084

(the entry starting with *lol*)

I have set both (open windows / open background) to the same
action so I don't have to 'train' myself on using the second
entry.

You will still get sometimes an popup but it is much
much much less than before.

Just for perspective, IE has the same "Open in background" feature, although it is all contained in the mother window...
