Display u/s with 256 colours

I have just installed K-meleon .6 and it is working great except when i run 1024x768 256 colours it looks like there may only be 16 colours used. IE5 works ok (correct colours). If I change to 800x600 16bit colour the colour is displayed ok.
Any Ideas??
